Says on the box it's dangerous out to a mile

Probably true; because to travel a mile, a 22LR would need to be fired from a AC-130 in the sky!

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Any time I have a .22 pointed at something, it's going to die.

Doesn'tatter how big it is. Doesn't matter if it's flying.

We used to have an armadillo problem. A cheap UTG red dot mounted on an m&p15-22 and I haven't seen one in two years. I have extirpated armadillos from my area.

That's my first memory of shooting my little 22 with my dad: reading the box and realizing my gun is dangerous out to a mile.

You’re basing this on pure personal bias and not on ballistic evidence.

The ballistics of .22 at 400 don't agree. At 400, it's almost airsoft for most loads starting at 1050 fps

Now, inside of 70 yards, I can kill anything in louisiana.

Okay…where are you getting your info? I’ll stick with facts over feelings.

Muhhh Science…22LR

More 22LR at distance

Ballistics testing over opinions.

No doubt it’s dangerous and no doubt a normal person in their right mind would want to be shot by one. My concern with a 22 is how long will it take for the person who is not in their right mind to die!! I am always amazed at the news stories of some hood rat that drove himself to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
A deep dive into how bullets kill shows that you either hit CNS or cause enough blood loss. I have used a 22 for follow up shots on wounded deer and shot pigs with them and the blood loss is minimal and they didn’t stop moving till one went in the ear hole.

No chance I would use a rimfire weapon for self defense. They are unreliable. Your life is on the line, use something else.

Most definitely. The boogie man doesn’t care what you’re shootin in his direction, flight is on his mind if able. The 10/22 is my #1 choice in a “SHTF, I’ve gotta go” situation so it would also be used in any defensive or offensive situations too.

That’s a reasonable degree of home protection/defense, but I think I’d choose an MP5 with subsonic heavy 9mmx19 parabellum and a suppressor, or an AR-15 in 300 AAC blackout also with subsonics and suppressor.

I would take a 22LR over a 25 auto any day of the week

Agreed. One benefit of the .22 is the low recoil and ability to stay on target, especially for those that don't shoot all the time. Federal punch out of a Ruger Mark III 5.5" barrel is bad to the bone. Sound alone sounds like a high powered round. I wouldn't want to get hit with it for sure. I personally like a combo of calibers, strategically staged for home defense.
