Mine all came from the REAL Army Surplus store in West Monroe in the '70s.

It lasted from my teens to my 30's.

Then, I got my stuff from the BX for nothing much.

I have 10-12 pants, long sleeve tees, button up shirts, light jackets, archery jackets, windbreakers, and 2 four in one parkas for less than $500.

And it's gonna be replaced after this year, as I've lost 100 pounds.

The only "fancy" jacket I have is a Trophy Club goose down that I found on the side of the road 35 years ago.

Run, don't walk, away from the isle that carries Sitka Camo. That shite will make you either want to cry or laugh because the price is higher than giraffe puzzy.

Seriously, the old Game Winner stuff from Academy was awesome, especially at the end of the season when it was 30% off.

Exactly. All you need is a good base layer to keep you warm and the camo you put over it doesnt matter. Ive got a wolverine heavy camo jacket, about 5 Magellan dry fit long sleeve shirts a fleece, and the UA base layer shirt and a hoodie, and a frog togg jacket for the rain. Bought the UA on sale, everything else was cheap and has lasted so far. I think its stupid to buy expensive camo. Anything tan, brown, or dark green works just fine, too.

Why buy expensive camp when you are sitting in an enclosed box stand?

I finally bit the bullet and bought some FirstLite stuff last year. I'm glad I did. It's light, warm, and breathable. I can't speak to the durability just yet, but after one season it held up well. I will definitely be purchasing some additional pieces.

Everybody knows that deer will only allow themselves to be shot by a hunter wearing the latest and newest camouflage.

I was hunting on our lease one time back when a buddy invited and introduced a guest hunter to us. He was wearing brand new camo that still had price tags hanging on them. Especially a cap that made him look like a quail with the tag hanging down in the front. Fortunately he didn't stick around long. A real character!

You have to pay what seems to be at least $300 for a solid duck hunting jacket now a days and i just dont get it. All anyone needs down here is a camo rain jacket and a sweatshirt but somehow we are getting overly exploited as consumers to pay these outlandish prices.

Anyone have any preferences for where/ what they buy that wont break the bank? I use Rogers and Wing Supply a bunch but there has to be some better deals out there.
and it is the most over rated tool in a hunters arsenal.... hence the guys wearing sitka camo tops and bright blue jeans while duck hunting.

I have a buddy who wears scent spray, scent free deodorant, scent free clothes and boots, and paints his face.

I go wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and smoke cigs as my cover scent. No difference in the amount or size of deer we see

This. I just got their Eagle Pass lightweight camo for squirrel season. It's freaking amazing and only $25 per shirt/pants.

Also, I bought a badass $150 Gamehide 3-in-1 jacket that is just as good (or better) when compared to a $400 Drake 3-in-1 jacket.

Stay away from the overpriced high end name brand stuff and you'll be surprised how cheap you can get hunting gear.

Just like you don't NEED an $1800 Super Black Eagle 3 to shoot a duck. Get a <$1000 SX3, SX4, A300, etc.

In all honesty, The only person your wearing camo for is to either impress fellow hunters on what you can spend or hide from fellow hunter.

Deer (most quadrupeds) don't have the color spectrum level to tell the difference in royal blue and dessert sage much less these leafy (breakup) patterns that are marketed to us.

Ducks and geese eye sight is outrageously great. But again color doesn't come into play after about 50yds for them( thus they fall in hard and flare at last minute). To hide from them you need broken up color changes and not necessarily blending in to shadow grass you kinda stand out at the distances they see those breakups.

In Louisiana, bucks seem to come to smoke.

In other places, breakfast can murder your chances.

This^^^

Even with high end backpacking gear there is always a sale at some point. But clothing is seasonal, so it will come down. I bought a $400 down coat last year for $140 in the spring. The same model is $400 again. Well at least this years model. They changed the zipper pulls and added new color options, so that warrants this years seasonal price

It's expensive because some hunters have a weird need to be fashionable.
