Why doesn’t Louisiana have lottery tags for black bears? I know they were endangered about 5-6 years ago, but apparently have bounced back in a major way.

It will be several years before Louisiana has a black bear season because environmental groups will tie up the delighting in court. They are arguing that the LOUISIANA black bear has not been recovered because the state brought in bears from Minnesota, which don't have the exact same genetic structure.

I’ve wondered if the state could sell lottery draws like they do out west for elk and such in certain NWRs

the frick are you going to do with a bear?
in warm weather areas they are covered in ticks and the meat isn’t that good anyway.

never have understood the want to kill apex predators

Don’t you have tk boil the meat BEFORE you cook it?

Definitely need to. They are starting to become a PITA in the basin area and in delta. Same for Natchez in MS.

Definitely not, i had some a few weeks ago for the first time. We grilled it, and it’s the best meat i ever had. Tasted like i was eating a ribeye. Very similar to beef. Although you have to cook it well done because of trichinosis.

Because they were the most recent of the extirpated big game. Elk had been gone since the late 1700 early 1800s.

In another interesting note bison would make it all the way down to the cajun prairie area.

I can promise you they haven’t been endangered in the last 12-years near the Tensas River NWR

Axis deer seem like a perfect fit for Louisiana

No, you treat it like wild pork to avoid trichinosis.

I feel like we will eventually have a limited one. In the meantime, I'm going to Canada spring of 2022 for a bear hunt. Pretty excited.

Black bear is very good. I have eaten a lot of it over the years. My favorite is bear breakfast sausage. We use it for spaghetti, stuffing, rice dressing, you name it. It is damn good meat. I got over the negative idea of eating it along time ago.

I am close to a few folks in the LDWF. They say we are very close to a season. They just need to stop finding 20+ dead every ear shot dead by people.
