Don't think they are really that more complicated. 1911's are extremely reliable, sticking to the non-frills versions that aren't built to aerospace tolerances. My SIA Mil-spec has gone bang every single time just like my Glock. In fact I don't think I have had more than a handful of FTF's or FTE's across all my firearms ever. Even my Desert Eagle, which are notorious for feeding problems, only has had one FTF and that was my fault trying to shoot it one-handed

If you are ever in a situation where you have to draw your weapon you want to make sure it goes bang.
Glocks go bang.

There are several things to like
Affordable
Reliable
Simple
Vast aftermarket support
There are several things not to like
Ergos
Sights
Trigger
Glocks are fine guns, but not for me.
An M&P2.0 with an Apex is better than virtually all <$2000 guns

I will add my 2cents and take it for what its worth.
I have been in law enforcement for 28years and i have not/will not EVER carry anything but a Glock whether on or off duty PERIOD
This isnt a contest of what is cute or cool. It is eat or be eaten. Bottom line.

My buddy has an M&P 2.0 Compact in 9mm and the stock trigger surprised me.

Initially they were better all around handguns than most of the early striker fires but now there are so many other quality options with much better triggers. Walther PPQ/PDP’s, HK VP9, the higher end Caniks for example. The Sig P365 if you’re talking micros. You can upgrade your Glock to improve triggers, sights, etc but you don’t necessarily need to with many others in that category.

That's because S&W essentially took the work that Apex did and incorporated it into their triggers, mainly putting a radius on the sear.
I did a "Burwell trigger job" on my 1.0, using a Worksharp with fine belts to polish all the engagement surfaces, and it made a pretty big difference. On the Shield Plus it wasn't even needed, so they're learning.

Get the G45 instead of the G19x

I've only shot one a few times and it wasn't terrible, not memorable. I don't hate them, nor do I love them or own one. People like what they want and if they're happy, then that's all that matters. Glock homers and fan boys make me chuckle from time to time, but to each their own

Blocks are great but I'm loving my caniks now.

I own 7 Glocks and both of these and the 19x is the winner here. Actually, its arguably the best one they make out the box. Top 2 for sure. drop a milled slide, trigger work and it's just bad arse. I have one with a holo sight milled slide and its beast mode. clear a set in a flash. supereme accuracy.

For the same reason people like Winchester model 70s, ambassadeur reels, and Toyota 4Runners.
They work. Dependable. Not cheap but affordable. Durable. You can probably buy a better pistol or rifle or bait casting reel or truck, but for the price they can’t be beat.

The 45 is a black version of the 19X.

Triggers and sights are easy, quick, cheap fixes.
Do Glocks come with Ergo grips ? (Or maybe you meant ergonomics. Best fix for that is about 500 rounds of ammo.)

Walther makes a pistol just as reliable and wayy more comfortable with a much better trigger.
So does Beretta.
So does S&W.

Most reliable gun on that range over 2 weeks of training were the Shadow Systems. Only one issue the entire time and that was (my) human error on a manual reload when my hand slipped off the upper while making hot.
S&W guns performed well also. Sig was decent but if I remember right there were some magazine issues with one of the P365s. One guy shot a Springfield Hellcat and had almost no issues.
All in all, none of the guns performed poorly but Glock was not invincible like the instructor told us it would be.
I've attended roughly 500 contact hours (I think the exact number is 486) at self defense training academies. The list includes Thunder Ranch, Massad Ayoob's 40 hour (MAG40) class, Tom Givens, Jerry Miculek (before he signed his big S&W endorsement contract), Andy Stanford, James Yeager (before he went overseas as a contractor and came back all ,messed up) John Farnam et al. These people (except for James) can tell you what guns hold up in classes where students fire 900-1400 rounds.

I have three Shadows. I do not know how many rounds were shot thru them in the test you speak of but all three of mine have had to have firing pins and springs replaced after 10k rounds. Very common problem with Shadows, even their customer support will confirm it. I have never had to replace anything on a Glock except a barrel I shot out.

I am a revolver person because i am good with it. But i don’t blame yall. I am neutral on the Glock.

You am a fan of complicated. If I can’t take it apart and be amazed by all the fiddly bits I don’t want it. Changing gun parts out is part of the joy of ownership.
