And yet people fail to do this time and time again.

It's reliable, I shoot it well, and it's affordable enough to where I can have 3 or 4 or them.

People can be stupid with a manual safety, too.

I own two. 19 and 43X. 19 was my first handgun from probably 15 years ago. I shoot it better than any handgun I've ever held.

43X was bought a few years ago when I got my CCP. I've put enough rounds through it, that I'm as confident in my ability with it as I am with the 19.

I own a few other handguns that aren't Glocks, but I don't care for them as much. However, that could just be because I'm so used to the Glocks. I'm a big fan of the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I shoot them well, and they will fire EVERY SINGLE TIME.

They are reliable.

Because they work and if my life is on the line, then I want something that works. Its as simple as that.

Yes, I have other pistols, but they get shot at the range.

Other brands have made huge improvements in the reliability of their offerings. Im pretty heavily invested into glock and dont really need/want to change.

For someone new looking to pick up a pistol, then by all means pick a different brand. Its not my problem.

I have a g19, usp 45 compact. Cz p01, jericho 941, lcp max 380 and have shot/used to own the xde 45, xds, shield 45, beretta m9a2's and others. The usp and the way it functions is my all time favorite.. I dont care about the glock. The internals seem like something a 12 year old came up with. However I can't deny that I shoot it as good as the usp, and better than all of the others. it's comfortable and has been reliable for me. Im not huge on the trigger/safety on it. I carry on a motorcycle a lot and trust a da/sa hammer fired setup more.

My wife is a former cop. She has several glocks and a boatload of mags that are all interchangeable. I recently bought her a psa ar-9 that takes her glock mags. I like the feel of my XD's over her glocks. She prefers carrying only one type of mag for whatever she has in the car or her purse.

You say this as if the simplicity of the platform is a bad thing, when it reality it’s the basis for its justifiable popularity world wide.

When I carried concealed, the G30 SF was my go to.

I'm in the camp of not liking Glocks, but only carrying a Glock.

What I don't like:
-sights (weird rear sight u box looking thing). Not really a big deal, as sights can easily be changed.
-take down is odd for me (don't like pulling trigger to release the slide)
-grip angle is wrong for me (having shot a lot of Beretta 92s and 1911s)
-I hate the trigger. It can be improved, but it will never be awesome.
-safe action system (not true double action), means no second pull of the trigger in case of a weak primer strike. Don't think that really matters though. At one point I was so practiced that if a gun didn't go bang, then without thinking I would do an immediate action drill (tap, rack, bang). Pulling a trigger twice is really not a thing, but I would prefer it. To get failures, I would have a buddy load mags and put a dummy round somewhere in one of the mags.
-plastic mags - never had a problem with them, but they are a little bulky and don't fall free like a 92 or 1911 mag.
-can't customize to the degree you can some other guns.

What I do like:
-it goes bang every time (I used to work as a range safety officer, and I have seen Glocks have failures, probably ammo related, but is definitely rare)
-the finish is outstanding. I often carried in a 5.11 holster shirt and would sweat all over it. Didn't worry about wiping down with Hoppe's #9...it just didn't rust.
-I can hit the target. I personally will never win bulleye matches with a Glock, but combat accuracy at 25 yards and in, I am confident.
-no manual safety (that's no longer anything unique, but it's still a plus).
-they are inexpensive given the quality.
-Since they are so popular, it is easy to find someone to do trigger work etc. A lot of police depts. get officers qualified as armorers, so you may not even need to find an actual gunsmith. A wide variety of holsters are easy to find, parts and mags are easy to find.
-plastic mags (yes this is also a dislike). If you shoot a lot and you do so on concrete, then dropping plastic mags is less likely than damaging metal ones.
-Interchangeable mags among Glocks in the same family. For instance, the G21 mag will fit in the 30 (not the other way around though). So if you were a cop, then the G21 would be your duty and 30 would be a natural backup.
-Modern Glocks (i.e. Gen 4) come with changeable back straps. I hated the G21 because it was too big. But a G21 Gen 4 would be great. Allows shooters to fit the gun to the hand.

I suck with pistols as far as accuracy, for the most part, just grew up with shotguns and rifles…. But, I got a Glock 17, and can shoot lights out with it, enough said…

They're blue label pricing was genius.

Any time someone needs a pistol, what do they do?
Ask the cop that lives down the street.
Cop says "I've always carried a Glock on duty."

My next door neighbor is a Glock guy. He's let me hold and shoot a few different Glocks he has.

I prefer my .45 1911, but I do kind of want a full size 9mm also. I like the idea a full size Glock holds 17+1 vs. the single stack of a 1911.

I've been looking at the Glock 17 Gen 5. $550ish pre tax, FFL, etc. brand new in the box.

I keep hearing people say they fire every single time. I recently went through a CSSO course with several other people. Probably at least 7 glocks on the range. I personally witnessed 1 misfire and 2 chambering issues (double feeds) out of the glocks.
Most reliable gun on that range over 2 weeks of training were the Shadow Systems. Only one issue the entire time and that was (my) human error on a manual reload when my hand slipped off the upper while making hot.

S&W guns performed well also. Sig was decent but if I remember right there were some magazine issues with one of the P365s. One guy shot a Springfield Hellcat and had almost no issues.
All in all, none of the guns performed poorly but Glock was not invincible like the instructor told us it would be.
Long story short, I can get the Blue Label price on a Glock and still shoot a SS for a reason.

Would you carry one deep into the Alaskan bush where you might encounter anything from bear to moose to wolves to unfriendly humans? If so, which one?
