Why can’t Louisiana have a real saltwater fishing pier?

You go to Florida and they have concrete (like an interstate overpass) fishing piers all over for the public.

I know they have tourism money and they have the beaches and water vs our marshlands, but how great would a fishing pier be in the Leeville-Grand Isle area?

I’m talking one like a roadway. Concrete that can survive a hurricane. Louisiana has unbelievable fishing, but you must have a boat. And fishing on the side of the road isn’t exactly safe and comfortable.

Why can’t Louisiana provide better access to our wonderful fishing?

There's a concrete one in Slidell.

It used to be I-10.

Is there not one still at the bridge in Grand Isle?

Politics

The piers in Slidell and Mandeville are a joke. Email the parish, they've been waiting for fema funds that were delivered years ago.

Sportsman's paradise is a joke.

And its been closed for about 2 years from storm damage. St Tammany Parish doesnt seem to be in any hurry to reopen it

I can only imagine the bitching if they charged for access to a pier in LA, like they do in FL .
Also, you're not catching anything different 100 yards off the shore in LA than you are from the side of the road. Not really comparable.

90% of ours get destroyed every time a hurricane comes through. Then they sit, looking like hell, for the next 3-4 years. We've also got a hell of a lot more "beach front" that makes sense for public fishing piers.

Go to any public fishing spot in LA and you’ll see why. People in this state are so damn trashy.

If the fishing was good on a pier there would be non stop fights in Louisiana. Pier rats are no joke and you are talking some of the worst people that fish on them because that’s their only option.

Ya’ll talk shite about people stabbing tires at boat ramps and fighting in Venice bars, a south Louisiana fishing pier would be incredible to just go with a cooler of beer and watch some arse whoopins.

Fishing Pier?? We can't even get boat launches. We have a fish hatchery they spent tons on and it is now idle. LDWF needs major changes, maybe an elected director, I don't know what is worse.

The fine people of this state will trash it. Like they do at every wma launch or public area. Crabbing areas shutdown due to trash zero respect for our states resources.

because people are inconsiderate assholes who cant get along with others or share.

thats why you buy a boat, so you dont have to fight people just so your kids can try to catch a fish

Me and my boy went kayaking on the lakefront a couple weeks ago. Paddled down to sunset point and was shocked at how badly damaged the pier was. I guess from Ida? It was a cool place to go and there always seemed to be people out there. Not sure when they planned on rebuilding. I mean it was never a super productive fishing spot but good for families with kids to get on some croakers and white trout under the lights.

Like a few people have said it would be full of trash within a month. Amazing how people in this state just throw trash wherever they want.
