Just purchased a fifth camper for myself and my kids. 16yo son & 9yo daughter. We a had bumper pull camper about 15 years ago and we enjoyed it.
I’d appreciate any advice on the better campgrounds in Louisiana and a few out of state that y’all have visited.

Red deer and potbelly pigs roam the campsites. Has a lake, big swimming lagoon, general store, gem mining, allows side x sides and golf carts, live bands on weekend, shuttle for tubing boggu chitto river that u float back up to camp site. Its our fav

On our third camper in 15 yrs. started with a 29’ bumper pull rear lounge, then had a 32’ fifth wheel bunkhouse now in a 29’ bumper pull toy hauler.
As far as campgrounds we enjoy bogue chitto, little black creek, gulf state park and the silver slipper. Been to many within a 3 hour drive of Houma but these are our favorites.

We enjoy Percy Quin and Lake Lincoln in Sw Ms.
We just got back from George Cossack State park in north Ms. Its on lake Enid .
There are other campgrounds on the lake with beautiful waterfront views of the lake.
Headed to the Smokies next week with the camper . That will be a long pull.

Never been a camper man but they look fun. The campground on the cause way in Mobile (meaher state park?) looks fun. It's small but right on the water.

It pends on what ya like to do. Some great fishing camp sites some with access to hunting some close to cities etc. Some places ya give up camp ground quality for fishing like bayou black. some ya love the camp ground and the fishing is a plus like Chicot or Bayou segnette

Grayton Beach State Park
ETA: I’m actually going to Byron Ga to look at new 5th wheels. I have 34’ 5th wheel but it’s 8 yo with a lot of use (deer hunting). I want one with a few more slide outs more bunk space.

36' Rockwood
The Corps of Engineer campgrounds are hidden gems.
Most of the time the slips are much bigger than state parks.

There is a place on Weiss Lake in AL called Chesnut Bay Resort. Private facility. Has a water park on site. The place is well maintained. I highly recommend.

Reunion Lake in Ponchatoula is like RV resort with a last river and a white sand beach. Pretty cool place IMO.

on a side note, whats the biggest bumper pull you would feel comfortable pulling with an older 1/2 ton?

I spent the afternoon looking at bumper pull campers at bents. I have a big family and we typically pack everyone up in our Yukon XL. So if we got one we would have to pull using that. I found out today it's only rated to 6300lbs. Would I be pushing it buying a 28' weighing 5100lbs?

I'm not sure this will help you but I pulled a 32 FEMA trailer from BR to shreveport in a half ton. No sway bar. No brakes.
Most scared I've ever been in a vehicle.

In a nutshell, payload sticker on your door jamb. Subtract your families weight from it minus any accessories you added minus 100lbs for a hitch and that is how much tongue weight you can have. Brochure tongue weights are fictional.
