So i am picking up my first labrador in the next couple of weeks, and am trying to make a list of everything I am going to need. Outside of the basics (kennel, bowls, collars, leaches, chews, bumpers) does anyone have any recomendations on things I should have ready when I bring the dog home?

Broom, dust pan, dust buster, rake, leaf blower, trash bags, a couple of finger splints for when you punch it, couch cover, new rug, maybe a new wife, new footwear and possibly an electrician.

Get the book (water dog) .
Read it I’m assuming you will want him to at least fetch a tennis ball at some point and that book is good for duck dogs as well as teaching simple obedience commands.
Nothing is worse than being around bad dogs and bad kids...

A couple of chapters from WATERDOG and the Bible should work...

Don’t forget a cute collar so your significant other can post a pic and update her profile to include ‘dog mom’

Skip the leaches:)
Gundogsupply.com
Herme springer pinch collar, healing stick, garmin/dogtra e-collar (get the cheapest they have), 25’ check cord, 50’ check cord.
You can make the leashes and check cord and save the $$$.
Pinch collar is power steering for dogs.
E-collar will remind them you run power steering.

If you have any trailers (boat, atv, etc.) within his reach you might as well go ahead and order new light kits for them all.

Lots and lots of Buffalo horns and other durable, long-term Cheweys to chew on. Trust me...you’ll thank me. Labs need things to do and they will be teething for what seems like forever..good luck

You’re gonna need a couple more pairs of boots for you and a new purse for your wife. Maybe a new couch too.

Not for when it's little, but a choke collar is useful when teaching it to heel.

And new baseboards. And new outdoor furniture. New plants (indoor and out).

Congrats on the new lab--they are amazing!

We have 3. A roomba works wonders on the hair if you plan on having him inside at all.

All this, and if the new wife is a Vet it'll save you a bundle.

some raquet balls and a can of Vapoorize if you can find it. I have yet to find any in stores, only on the movie Envy.

Just remember the motto of the Labs...Chew till they're two and shed till they're dead!

I could make 10 new dogs each week from the fur I sweep and vacuum!
