What lake would you retire on?

I would like to hear what lake, or lake towns would be worth settling down in when it’s time to retire. My cousin built a beautiful place on Lake Fork, TX a couple of years ago, and I do love to fish there when it’s cooler, but those summers are brutally hot. I was wondering about other lakes in the Southeast worth looking at.

If summer heat around Lake Fork is an issue, I would probably look a little further north.
I would think Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri would be nice but I have never been there.
I have friends who have been to Lake Greeson in Arkansas and loved it there but that was many years ago.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Probably Toledo bend because there’s so many different ways you can fish, it would never be boring. You could flip docks one day, fish deep the next, and then get back in a creek and fish cypress trees the next day. Also, duck hunt in the winter, or catch frogs at night in the summer. So many options.

Toho or Kissimmee; you can go from either of these to the other PLUS the Kissimmee River and a couple of other lakes without ever having to put your boat on a trailer.
The link below only shows the very southern end of Toho and the Kissimmee River isn't shown but is at the bottom end of Kissimmee.

If I decide to move or buy a 2nd house on a lake, it will be Lake Michigan around Traverse City.

If Dallas is too hot for you, look at pickwick lake in Miss/Tenn or lake of the ozarks in Missouri.

Lake of the Ozarks is a nice lake. You can find some "decent" deals there. My dad had a 2nd house there but recently sold his farm in Missouri and moved to the lake full time.
What makes Lake of the Ozarks so attractive, so many coves that are buildable, also makes it hell on a holiday weekend. It's in the shape of a dragon, so the main channel isn't very wide and you have a ton of boats going way too fast.

One in a low property tax state with no history of drought and fish kills. Within 10 to 15 miles of a nice supermarket plus boat house/marina stall. (Rules out central tx)

Pickwick is a nice lake though fishing there is very tough with a ton of pressure on it.

My parents live about 20 mins from pickwick and I have always found it pretty easy to get on a mess of largemouth or smallmouth with some decent electronics
