Most times I walk so far to my spot I have to carry the bare essentials. Climbing spikes, Bowie knife, Recurve, canteen, piece of flint, length of road, magnifying glass. If I’m doing a 3 day sit I’ll bring some hard tack, dehydrated biscuit and a water purification kit. I’ve stumbled across some slacker’’s corn pile before and had to walk 20+ miles to get a safe distance from it. So the H20 purification kit comes in handy. If the weather is warm I’ll bring a tote sack to put the snakes I catch in, and bring them back to my house. It keeps the rats in check.

I like to leave all technology behind.
Just me, my gun, bourbon or beer, and the wildlife around me.

Several things I shouldn't , afternoon hunts I drink a half pint of jack Daniels and yank my Pud to porn . Morning hunts are coffee and concentration . Shoot more deer in the morning .

*Tree
Sit still, think thoughts. Sip coffee, repeat.
Also get excited when a possum makes a ton of noise behind me.

I mainly listen carefully while watching the dozens of squirrels play around the stand. While doing that, I curse myself for not bringing my 22 and hunting tree rats instead.

A 6-pack, Doug, phone and a Louis Lamour usually get me through an evening sit. If it’s real cold change the beer to Bourbon.

I bought a saddle to bow hunt this year, wanted to see how comfortable I could get, closed my eyes for like 3 minutes, wake up for no reason, a public land shooter is within range, takes me too long to get set up, finally stop him and shoot, small 2” diameter tree covering vitals at 25 years, I center massed the tree.

Read different things. Books, magazines, tigerdropppins. Text hunting buddies also on stand and try to make them laugh. I have listened to podcasts with just one earbud in. During what we think of as “prime time” I focus all my attention towards the hunt, but reading and podcasts are a good way to keep me on stand an extra 90 minutes or so. I might even try to write some stories this year when I’m box sitting.

Definitely! Yeah I used to read but always think I'm missing something while looking down that's why I go audible books now. Like you I can hunt way longer without getting fidgety.

my 'ground' blind is close enough to my house that i'm still on WIFI. Wear head phones and watch college football, Netflix, etc.

I throw my kindle in my pack and read in the saddle.

Thankful just being out there .... thankful for a few hours away from everything alone experiencing the spirit of the wild..... As I wait for ghosts to emerge out of nowhere.
