I just finished eating some meat from a wild boar. My after thoughts are as follows: why would anyone want to waste this wonderful meat?

We don't have them at our camp. Thank God. But I understand the guys that shoot them and dump them. They reproduce out of control. They shoot all they can to TRY to control the population. Just how many do you want to stuff in your freezer.

Sometimes I shoot them at work and don’t have time to mess with them. Sometimes it’s hot as balls and I don’t feel like messing with them. Sometimes the freezer is full, and sometimes I’m just lazy.

My good friend kills 200+ a year. You can only give so much of it away before you start dumping truckloads of them in a pile and using them for bait.

Kill em all whether you will eat them or not. I'll eat every sow I kill though.

Clean a couple a year. Have drug an arse load of them off the rot in the bushes. I don't care what anyone does with them as long as they put a hole in em.

TCUpurpletiger (or something like that) who is apparently a doctor and used to post here frequently, once gave a detailed post about how he deals with pigs he killed for eating. I don't really remember much but that he used gloves for most of cleaning/dressing process due to potential diseases.

It's BleedingPurple, and I believe his hog cleaning/prep method is linked in the pinned post.

bottom line a dead hog is better for the ecosystem than a live one..... regardless of what you do with it......

I at least took tenderloins out of every one i killed last year..rougly 20-25 - nearly all whilst I was bird hunting.

if any of you really want to kill pigs... you need to go hunt the opposite side of where the woodcock army goes..... thank me later...

So you’ve had a serving or two of one pig and presume that you have a handle on how every one will taste?

When you eat a bad one, it will no longer be wonderful and you will leave all boars in the woods after that.

I love it too and don't kill more than I can clean and eat but I have friends who farm and can understand why they'd just as soon kill em all today. When they hit your livelihood/pocketbook, it makes you feel differently about it.
