Where do I buy masonry sand? I see Lowes has some in 50lb sacks. Was hoping to find some in more of a bulk amount

Torpedo grass is the advanced stage cancer of lawns.
You have to basically kill the yard to kill it.

There's a brickyard in mid-city called Masonry Products. They sell it by the bag or will load up a truck/trailer.

Not too worried about weed seeds as garden will be heavily mulched
Torpedo grass calls mulch its bitch. Trust me I know. And for whomever says it will look good when cut, you're wrong.

How large is the lawn? If you put down river sand that has not had the weeds killed, it will be loaded with weed seeds.
My grandfather actually made strainers out of wood and screen just for this purpose.

Look online in your area for any sand and gravel haulers and call them. If around Baton Rouge I use General Sand and Gravel, Brent Browning or Hollis Kinchen. 6, 8 or 30 yard loads.
I have used river silt on a dozen yards and never had any weed problems but I’ve always laid sod over it. For an acre use a 4 wheeler with a piece of 6’ chain link fence behind it to drag and level.
For a vegetable garden or flower beds, Hollis Kinchen makes their own mix and will deliver 8 yards. I use it in my garden and it works fine-good mix of soil and mulch. Clarify which one-vegetable or flowers as they made one for each. Cheaper than Cleggs but they have it too.
Mason sand will not pack like river silt and topsoil will settle.

You don’t understand torpedo grass. It’s not just some weed. It’s the devil and will eventually be everwhere
It ranks up there with bamboo on my "frick-u-o-meter"

Around $15-20/yd depending on the size of truck delivering.

Any chance you remember what they charge for an 8yd load?

Pretty sure 6" of mulch will stop it. If it doesn't I will spray it with my a mixture of white vinegar and garlic jiuce. That shite will knock anything's sick in the dirt.

Tots if you still have my number give me a call or e-mail I have a guy on the north shore that can deliver mason sand by the truck load if you haven't found someone yet most any dumptruck/dirt guy should be able to get it fairly easy.

And I’m pretty sure you’re wrong. Torpedo grass will migrate under a sidewalk so mulch won’t stop it . Neither will a weed barrier. It does look OK when mowed but you will not be able to stop it from popping up in your flower beds Only way to stop it is to dig it out from the roots. You’ll need to dig down about 15-18 inches. Make sure you get it all or it can regrow from a small piece of root.

Enjoy your torpedograss.
ETA - I'll be resodding most of my lawn with zoysia (which I'd rather not have to do) because the previous owner decided to fill some low spots with river silt. fricking Alabama fans.

You just have to mow it every 2-3 days.
