Any Tohatsu owners in here? I'm probably going to sell my surface drive and put an outboard on my 18x54 aluminum boat. Friend of a friend has a 60hp Tohatsu for sale. He added a Yamaha trim switch to the tiller handle and a hydrofoil from Circle S Machine. It's a 2022 model with around 50hrs, and 2.5 yrs of warranty left. He's asking 6500.

I don't know much about Tohatsu other than I've heard they do manufacture motors for other companies in the game, and are getting popular with duck hunter up in Arkansas.

Any if you know the good bad, or ugly about em??

I think many of them are the same as Honda motors. Maybe the larger sizes.

My Dad has had a Tohatsu 40 since 2017. He's never had any trouble with it. I have a few buddies with them and I've never heard them say anything bad about them.

They are great motors. Tohatsu makes Mercury's small engines.

I am not sure about a connection to Honda outboards.

made by Nissan I think. Guy at our place has one and it runs like a top every time.

I had a 2020 Tohatsu 40HP with all the bells and whistles on my 16x48. I loved that fricking motor. No issues in the 3-1/2 years I had it. I ended up selling the boat due to not being able to use it as much as I'd like.

Good motors from what I've seen. Small issues and they run like a mofo. We call our duck boat the "Drug Runner". I've got a 9.8 on a 14' john for puddling around small lakes. Runs like the old 15hp from Johnson/Evinrude/Mercury's.

Not sure why you would say no. If you look at them in person they are also identical. Maybe could have changed recently but it was this way for many years.

Historically they have made many of the smaller outboards or multiple manufacturers. The only significant downside with them, as well as Honda has typically been a lack of local dealers for parts and service depending on your location that may or may not be an issue at all.

I'm in Ponchatoula. According to Tohatsu's website, my nearest dealer looks to be Bogalusa...

I had a Tohatsu tiller 60 on my duck boat, although much older than the one you are looking at. Mine was a 95 model. It was a great motor. No issues and since I was living in Monroe then, I had access to a local dealer/service at EK's Marine in West Monroe.

Same reason mines for sale, in fact sad. lol.

As for the Tohatsu, I’m a Yamaha guy through and through but wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Tohatsu. A lot of info out on them if you get on the tiller pages.

150hp and up are Hondas
Tohatsu is posidly the largest mfg of outboards worldwide.
Ran a 40 Nissan for years, same as hotzu just a different name. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another if i couldnt find an enduro used.

My cousin is still using a 1995 25 hp Tohatsu on a 16' duck boat.

That thing cranks every time. No issues other than a few broken pull cords over the years and general maintenance.

It's a Nissan engine
Had a 70hp on a 17' Cobia CC
That thing ran like a scalded cat
My nephew left it at the camp in Buras before Katrina

Everything 140hp and less is all Tohatsu design. Wish they designed and manufactured bigger hp offerings instead of teaming with Honda.

I did a bunch of research when building my boat. I would get a Tohatsu hands down.

That being said the motor weight jumps up at the 70hp mark and I found a lightly used 70hp yam, which is lighter for a steal.
