I was waiting for other replies out of curiosity, but we have always eaten bass under 2 lbs. We usually throw the 2lbers plus back depending on where we are or how hungry we are. But outside of the filet size when eating crappie and bream, cornmeal breaded and fried bass would be hard to distinguish. It’s all that basic white freshwater meat.
ETA: some small lakes/ large ponds are just absolutely over run with those .75-1.25lb bass and need them thinned hard

Its the same color as trout to my eye, except the flesh is firmer. Bass is delicious. I love targeting the ones in the .5 to 1.25# range on lightweight spinning gear and beetle spins. They're a blast to catch. They jump. They eat great. And they make excellent Flathead catfish trotline bait if you can keep them alive.

In Mississippi you can use anything for bait (except freshwater muscles). You can use gamefish, rough fish, goldfish, alive or dead, as long as it was taken legally and you don't go over the creel limit.
In Louisiana you can use bream, but you can't use bass or crappie.

I eat them all the time. My mind was blown when I learned as an adult that people didn't eat bass and there are folks that actually run around saying bass don't taste good.

Same. Blows my mind when people say this. Kind of like the same people that think I'm crazy for keeping big croakers and channel mullet to eat when we fish the beach.

I enjoy them even more when I think of the glitter boat that will never catch the one I'm eating.

It wasn't until I had my own bream and bass pond that I learned how good small LMB are. GRowing up I would always throw the small ones back to grow up. But now I have to cull the smallish bass out of my pond every so often. Dang they are good. Can't believe it took me so long to find this out. STill not as good as my floating fish food fed 11 1/2 inch bream. s

What color Yamamoto are you using. Those things are deadly in my pond.

We grew up eating fried LMB, never realized some people didn't eat them. Particularly enjoyed their fried roe! Good stuff

Usually Black/Blue with some medal flakes.
Those Bass are from a Lake in North La
I fish a Senko Texas rigged but without any weight, it will float down and sit on top of the grass and they can't stand it.

I’m retired and have 2 homes; on in MS with a lake and another on Bayou Terrebonne in the marsh. I don’t buy fish or red meat; eat bass and bream from lake, and specks, reds, etc, and deer meat.
I call bass “fresh water grouper” and hands down is my favorite of the 3 species I mention above. I rarely deep fry it, usually pan saute in avocado oil after letting it swim in lemon juice, and seasoning it with Andy Roos Blackened Seasoning, Tony’s, and other dry seasonings. Or I will pan fry with 1/8” oil after lemon juice and dusting with seasoned corn flour.
I love specks, reds, snapper, grouper too but pretty much prefer bass over specks and reds. No unsavory blood line on bass, perfect texture and never any fishy taste. If I’m going to fry fish, it’s usually some fileted fat arse coppernose blue gill or chinquapin.

Largemouth and all of the black bass are basically oddly shaped bream....they eat just as good. There in the same family as bluegill and shellcrackers and redbreasts and the rest of the bream.....which are no more bream than LMs are bass LOL..bream (common bream) are closer to carp than they are sunfish like bluegills....

I like trout better, but bass is really good if you catch them out of clean water. They can taste muddy.

Love bass grill the more than fry.

I do an annual trip on Toledo with some guys I grew up with. We turn largemouth back, but keep all the spotted bass and white perch we catch for a big fish fry on the final night.
Other than texture, it's hard to tell which is which.
I catch so many white perch during the rest of the year, that's pretty much exclusively what my family eats for fried fish.

Bass are the gold standard for eating.
Anyone who thinks otherwise should meet me at Sonic to discuss the matter.

When I bass fished I would mix yellow mustard and Louisiana hot sauce, thin it with a little water, dip the filets in it,let it drain before dredging in cornmeal.
Tasted great that way.
Otherwise it was my least favorite after white perch, catfish and bream.

The lake on my property is over run with bass. I have thrown several on the bank this year.
Probably need to cull 500+ fish out of it this year. My biggest issue is that when I go over there, it's usually to work and not play. Although the work there is something I very much enjoy doing. I sit at a desk most of the day and working outside on my place is relaxing.
I really need to go sometime soon and catch enough to have a good fish fry.
