Does anyone remember years ago there was a dispute on commercial and recreational limits, and the commercial guys blocked off Hwy 23 headed to Venice, had guns, and forced all recreational anglers to turn around?

A friend's dad was the Federal Judge that was deciding the Turtle Excluder Device trial and US Marshalls had the give him 24/7 protection because of threats from commercial shrimpers.

that dude is a lazy prick. oyster guys are generally stuck on leases. crabbers can go anywhere. and they choke many waterways. how about big mouth moves and finds crabs.

instead of becoming better at his trade, he would rather a free paycheck. like i said, lazy prick.

They are certainly an interesting bunch. I encourage folks to attend or watch a meeting of the Oyster Task Force to witness them at work.

I drive Hwy 90 every day. And everyday or just about I see 3 trucks loaded down with crabs. This dude can move his traps where these guys are and make a living till the lake bounces back or quit bitching.

it's the same thing with the oystermen.
Very different, they pay for their leases and cultivate their oysters, they can't pick up and leave... the crabber can.

and if it's like once crabber I know he only records about 1/5 of his sales as income.... so how would govt know how much to pay him?

this caught up with many a fisherman after BP Oil spill, they were saying they were losing 100K a year , but when they produced their tax returns they were only claiming 18K for the last 10 years or so

I watched that video just thinking 'what in the hell are you doing this for'. If you aren't covering your expenses just move on and find the crab elsewhere. But then you couldn't make videos cursing and bitching about something you don't understand.

I'm pretty sure if that fricker threatened me he would need a throw hook to find his traps because I'd spend all night cutting the floats off.

That dude will be in crab Heaven next year...

Sorry it sucks this year, but if history repeats itself, he'll be up to his arm pits with crabs..

He won't be complaining in the fall when the Lake Pontchartrain Basin fisheries explodes due to the added nutrients from the Mississippi river.

Oh look, trust me I wanted to get revenge.

I am not a commercial crabber so I was running the 10 I had.

I also did not see his line of traps so I have no clue which were his. He thought I was running his, and after he saw the ball he realized he was wrong. But he was crazy.

I would bet my life he runs other people's traps.

You are absolutely right. Crabs are always great year after an opening.

You know he pays for that to be able to run a couple hundred traps. Anybody that wants to do it can.

It doesn't give him license to be an a-hole or threaten peoples lives! frick him!

Well that’s the thing, Mother Nature always bounces back and jobs like this are always a roller coaster especially in south Louisiana where we face constant storms, floods and hurricanes and he knows it. At the Mandeville lake front there is a geometric frick ton of baby crabs that got stuck between the the sea wall and I mean thousands. Families have been going out there to catch them and release them back into the lake.

shite a couple weeks ago driving across the causeway from the north shore to the south from the north side to about six miles out the bait you could see on a calm day was ridiculous. Next year is going to flourish. You hear all these people complain about fresh water diversions and blah, blah, blah but that is what brings nutrients back into the marsh. Why do you think Venice is the fishing capital of the world?
