Oh there's a map somewhere....

Look, I'll eat my hat if someone produces it and proves me wrong.

No problem there, but just because some downaroad white booter "said so" doesn't mean squat, at least not to me.

If not, then I have beach front property in Arizona to sell you.

I want to see that dang map!!! lol

So the levee worked?

LOL

And why own anything not protected by it? Since it's public knowledge that land in Louisiana is sinking, eroding and not being replenished?

Then you're going to point out the obvious, the predictable and complain about it?

Did you know that Louisiana has the lowest IQ in the nation, being beat only by Mississippi?

Negative, Ghostrider. The pattern is full.
That link to LDWF is interesting LOL

But there is still no map.

It's nothing new that locals had their own name for it, but there's still no map.

Hell, we called Lake Coquille "Schwarzenegger Pond", and Bay Eloi was really "Get to the Choppa Lake" but it's not on a map.

Wow, no wonder "water owners" are fighting the water access issue so hard. Literally lining their pockets.
I've heard constantly over the years that Black Bay in Plaquemines Parish had a rather naughty name beginning with an "N" years before it was replaced with something not so naughty. lol

This always made sense to me, but I loooooove doing research on stuff and -- years later -- was looking at old maps (studying coastal land loss, me thinks) and noticed the controversial name was never on the map.

Not once.

So, I think the whole "it used to be called this name, betcha didn't know that, hardy har har" is just a dumb redneck/coonass thing that isn't anything more than an old wive's tale.

This map from 1941 doesn't have anything other than "Black Bay" on it.

LINK

Here's a map from 1893 clearly stating the body of water as being "Black Bay".

LINK

Those are pretty old maps, right?

People claiming otherwise always mention that they've seen an "old map" bearing the name, or have one, but not once have they ever produced a picture of the thing.

We have pictures of Bigfoot, but not one of this map?

I think people claiming so are full of shite and need to pony up or ditch the lame joke.

Change my mind! lol

I’ve got a friend that swears this is the single greatest fishing invention ever. Is it worth the $250 price tag for the digital control?

They seem to cast well

i don't have one but my buddy does, and they seem to do well enough

not sure if it's worth $250 or not, or that I would want one around saltwater

i know it's obvious, but skill and experience go way farther than any gizmo

Welcome aboard.
I have been fishing the Delacroix area for over 40 years. By the way, it is Black Bay not Black Lake. The old name, which was actually on old maps, was N----- Lake.
Went yesterday and just barely got limits of reds. Not as many as previous trips recently.

Thank you! I had no idea this site got this much traffic.

As for Black Bay....I don't think it ever was.

I'll start a new thread addressing this.

The MRGO Rocks, Easiest Route
So, I was thinking of giving the rocks a go this year. I've launched from Breton Sound before, but never tried to go out there. What's the easiest route to get out there? Mind you, I am very good about putting my boat into the mud.

i know this is late, but it could help others because i found this link while searching for the same thing

yeah, Spoil Canal fo sho

someone already linked up the one for the route aorund the rock dam, but here's one for the spoil canal, with a video of running it

[link=(How to run the Spoil Canal)]https://www.lafishblog.com/spoil-canal/[/link]

there used to be an obstruction in the middle of it towards the end, but it's been gone now, so you're good there

Well, do you know the real name of Black Lake?

Don't answer that or you could be band.

And yes, I have old maps of the area with the real name on them.

I wanna see 'em.

I've looked at old maps from the 1900s and 1800s and never saw that name on them.

It was always Black Lake.

Welcome.

Some really good and knowledgeable people here. What areas do you typically fish?

Thank ya thank ya

Hopedale and Biloxi Marsh

Sometimes Slidell if Lake P is good, but seems to only have angry crabbers in it now lol

What are your thoughts on:

The Taurus Judge
Silver labs
Bobcat mounts

That's my regular carry, loaded with PDX1 rounds.

lol jk

Not sure I have any thoughts on silver labs. So sure, why not?

Bobcat mounts? Only if I shot it with the Judge, in the face, and it was retrieved by a silver lab.

Boom.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Funny, but true. To be fair they do have way more fishing reports than everybody else and I do use them, just never want to incur the wrath of their admin. Pays to be a lurker, I guess

Thanks for the welcome, everybody.

Guess I gotta figure out what's up with the bobcat mounts lol
the people saying that this needs to be based on science are overlooking the science that LDWF has put out (or they didn't know about it at all)

sure, there has been land loss, but not THAT much land loss

compared to other states, we practice virtually zero stewardship

It's all about catching as many fish as possible to show off on social media or fishing report sites, to boost that ego. Very important to the Chads of the world.

We have awfully liberal limits (which is funny, because there are conservatives attacking people as "being democrats" when said "democrats" want the *liberal* limits removed, and the conservatives aren't conserving).

Bottom line is that the trout population IS down. Anybody who fishes regularly knows this.

Besides, the fishing experience is about the catching, not the keeping, right?
I love speckled trout and redfish fishing, use mostly live shrimp, but sometimes throw plastic.Don't really hunt much.

Came here because most of the other outdoors forums are dead.

There are some good Facebook groups like Rigolets fishing report, Louisiana Troutmen and LAFB, but if you're here you know how cluttered and disorganized Facebook is

Don't like it, so I'm here and hope to contribute and read some reports/fishing info
