Yep, get an auto-inflatable if you can.

I use the same AO36 and it’s great, holds ice really well and fits great in most kayaks.

I’m too broke for a PowerPole and had a trolley/stake out pole on my last kayak and used it frequently. Though now that I have a Hobie I find that I move around a lot more and use the pedals to hold position in a current when I can. Odds are I’ll add a trolley soon and maybe a powerpole eventually.

Marsh = Stakeout Pole. Open Water = Anchor-Trolley. Will definitely bring my anchor if I fish Crab Lady tomorrow.

I’d love a micro power pole. I just don’t like how high it sticks up in the back. I fish under a lot of trees often, though.

I use a 15# mushroom anchor. Seems like overkill for a kayak. But I’ve fished in some windy conditions where even the 15# anchor would get dragged on bottom and couldn’t hold me in place. Hard bottom, though. Soft bottom, different story. I would’ve probably given up on yak fishing if I didn’t have an anchor trolly and anchor.

If I’m in calm conditions, then yeah. I prefer to not use it. But it’s a necessary evil sometimes.

I got suck on the Leeward side of Big Lake one time in the kayak in high winds and my anchor trolley was the only reason I could fish it.

Definitely not ideal for fishing under those cypress trees. First time I took it to Hendason I learned that quickly.

I need to invent some type of remote anchor system that at the push of a button I could drop an anchor simultaneously at the bow and stern.

Unless something like that already exists that I’m unaware of. In which case.

I have 6 kayaks now and only one has an anchor trolley, and I'm likely taking it off tonight. To me it's one more thing to break/jam at the wrong time, or to catch a hook from a topwater bait.

I just put a small cleat on each side in the middle, and put those black things Hobie uses to hold bungee cords on the front and back, one on each side, and just run the anchor or stake-out pole line around the one I need to in order to orient the kayak correctly. No moving parts, nothing to break or get snagged on.

I need to rig a trolley on my Cuda like I had on my old one. It was simply a nylon cord that was looked through cleats on the front and back, with a stainless ring. No pulleys or anything to cause issues.

Fishing in Oklahoma, I can't imagine life without an anchor trolley. Makes fishing windy points doable and staying on top of sac-au-lait it manageable.

I could see in the marsh though it not being super beneficial. It does sometimes get in the way, but I've got little pegs that stick off my kayak down along closer to the water line that I can put the anchor trolley under to keep it out of the way when not in use. It's definitely more helpful than hindrance.

You can see it on this pic of my Old Town Predator:

Couldn't you use a cam like this? One for the front, one for the back. Just release the cam and the anchor drops.

If you are interested I have a Native Slayer 14.5 for sale. I could make you a pretty good deal on it.

By the way, a stake out pole or an anchor is necessary in any of the marshes or around any of the bays because of the currents and the wind. I would never kayak fish without this. I use mine all the time. I guarantee when you get on some trout and you start getting pushed away and you lose the bite constantly trying to get back to them...you will kick yourself.

I can vouch it’s a badass boat. Plus it’s already rigged with anything you’ll need to fish.

I would not pass that up. Love my Slayer 14.5. So comfortable to fish out of.

I'm sure it's just personal preference. Where I fish I'm rarely in a position where I can't paddle up to a little grass patch and put my foot over the side and use it as my anchor. My trolley, when I had it on, was not a quick deployment, and quick was what I needed if I needed to be anchored somewhere.

Does the masses have a preference of the 'on top' vs the 'sit in' yaks?
