I rarely run across venomous snakes, but when I'm out looking I have my snake hook with me. The bravest I've been was when I ran across a Copperhead under a log at my father-in-law's place. Just found a little stick to pin the head with and grabbed him by the head. But generally, the risk of getting bitten just isn't worth the payoff. Now when it comes to non-venomous, you do what you have to for the catch. You just grab amy spot you can get your hand on. Snake bites (non-venomous) are not bad at all. I'd take a dozen snake bites over a wasp sting any day.

I didn't expect this much participation when I started this thread. Great to see.
I spent a couple of days with my daughter in Bankhead NF this past weekend. We saw a couple of black racers, but that's about it. I expected to find more snakes on the roads at night, but no luck.

Really...I was thinking the usual dekay/brown snake. Now I'll have to look. Would be cool I never caught one of those before.

Was just coming to put that, was pretty positive about it. I see these a lot in this area at this house and my last.

Found this beauty in the skimmer. It's nice to have an 18X36 pit trap in the backyard.
