It amazes me how many videos and photos there are of people just handling Gaboon Vipers freely like it's a damn King snake. I get that they are docile and not very aggressive compared to many other venomous species, but no way in hell would I remotely run the risk of a Gaboon bite.

Took my daughter to the Barataria Preserve yesterday. I recommend this place for a leisurely hike although it gets pretty crowded. Saw several gators, 5 lined skinks, anoles, water snakes and this pair of garter snakes getting it on. My daughter asked if they were fighting. I said, yeah, something like that.

The pets in my house consist of one baby box turtle, one red eared slider, who shares a habitat with one alligator snapper.
There was also a young yellow belly in there, but the snapper made short work of him after about a year. I cried like a little kid. He bit his head clean off. He doesn't bother the RES and has never offered to bite one of us though. I guess he was having a bad day that day. they have made pretty cool additions to the house.

I'm interested in just about anything nature/animal related. But, I've never really learned much about insects. My daughter and I did keep some mantises a couple of years ago. Neat little assassins.

I didn't. My mother told my son to.

That's just the only snake picture I have to offer.

Had this Texas Rat Snake around the office a couple weeks ago. Had great color and was a bit feisty. Moved it to some nearby trees and watched it climb pretty quickly.
