Good buddy has a camp in the Atchafalaya basin, several miles from the boat launch. The skeeters are almost unbearable at night. You don’t linger outside of the screened in porch.

I live in what is called down the bayou. We use boats, but not to get around (unless it's a camp on the water). We use them to fish and hunt and then return to our homes on land.
Living with access to waterways to catch fish, crabs, shrimp, oysters, etc. and hunt duck, rabbit, and deer is the main reason I never left the bayou areas. We also have a more laid back lifestyle.

Live on the river in Ascension parish and have a camp in the Spillway. Camp is about a 20 mile ride from the nearest launch. Fish, frogs, ducks and deer all come from the 2 places. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I can put in at Spring Bayou WMA 10 minutes away or cross the street and fish the bayou in my front yard. I grew up coming here on weekends and never appreciated it until I moved here 2 years ago. I was raised up on a bayou in NE Louisiana and loved it. I never noticed the mosquitoes. I would love to live on a lake or bayou again to live out the rest of my life fishing. In fact I have been looking for something in North Louisiana or South Arkansas for a perfect home with a dock/pier to fish from.

I used to spend my summers on the bayou in port sulphur. We had a camp and my grandparents would basically move to the camp in April and stay until October. It did have electricity but was only accessible by boat. We caught rain water in a cistern for showers, washing dishes, and hand washing clothes. It was a village of many camps. Some of the native tribe lived on the water fully time and there was a school hiuse and a crew boat/ school bus boat if you will that ran as a school bus during the school year. I’d go to the camp for a month or two at a time. Daily fishing off the dock, running crab and min is traps around the camp, trawling daily during shrimp season. We’d make dried shrimp by the buckets. It was some of the best times of my life.

Some of my friends had a camp with Tony Chachere, on Big Alabama Bayou.
My Dad was born and raised a few miles North of Jack Millers landing on Bayou Plaquemine.

Look up Lake Wallace in SE Ark. Quiet lake with lots of trees, and it's not far from Bayou Bartholomew. There's not much going on down there, but if you're looking for peace and quiet, that's your spot.

We had a camp with similar 35 minute boat ride. Hunted there from 7 to 55. Launch closed and added another 15 minutes to boat ride. I finally said “I’m too old for this shite”. Now I drive up to a camp, my boat’s in a hoist, got central air, plumbing, internet, and satellite. One hr door to door, and the marsh is a little firmer. 30 minutes from a hardware store, grocery store, 15 minutes to a gas station. Fishing is better so is the hunting.
I do not miss the other camp.

Similar. Still make a hunt and fish out there every now and again. But joined a lease 20 minutes from the house. Way more convenient.
