I just took delivery of a S&W M&P 22 compact and got some range time with it yesterday. It’s a ton of fun to shoot. I mainly got it to start working with my son and getting him up to speed on shooting.

I just bought my bil a 22/45 tactical for his bday. I was really impressed by the finish. Also, breakdown is a very simple 1 button operation.

I have a few different 22 pistols, the quality of the ruger is much nicer than anything I have.

I have a Mark IV and a Buck Mark Contour with the 7” barrel and a Burris FastFire on it. The Buck Mark is probably my favorite plinking pistol.

ATF would not be happy...so let's clarify... it's a good thing you gave him Cabela's gift cards instead of the firearm, right? RIGHT?

No. It was a gift.

ETA: Actually, it was a gift card because I'm not in the states right now. But you're still mistaken.

You can purchase firearms as gifts.

Now if BIL is a felon and he knows it, he's in trouble.

I've had a Beretta Neos for several years. Fun to shoot, hasn't been picky about ammo brands. Like it a lot.

Ruger 22/45 and Walther PPQm2 .22. Both will shoot anything you put in it. They are both fun to shoot. The walther is my favorite. I have a tac solutions upper on the Ruger. Shoot both suppressed.

What are you wanting? Semi-auto? Revolver?

I have a Browning buckmark with a Tactical Solutions barrel on it (for my .22 suppressor) and a Burris fastfire red dot. That gun is extremely accurate.

Have the S&W M&P .22 compact that I really like but the trigger isn't anywhere close to the Buckmark have a suppressor that lives on this one. It's pretty much my varmint killing pistol. When I trap a raccoon or a possum in the yard this is the one that gets called upon the take care of the situation.

have a Ruger single six that may be one of my top 3 favorite pistols. Love shooting that gun.

Heritage Rough Rider. Fun gun but not a Ruger but WAY cheaper.

My brother had a Ruger Mk1 or mk2, can't remember but that gun was so fun to shoot. His had a bull barrel on it. Very accurate.

Only two that I would love to own that I don't are a double action revolver in .22 like a S&W and a Colt Woodsman.

Maybe the S&W 622 as well

I have a fullsize M&P 22 that Walther made when they first came out. When I’m on the 4 wheeler or just out around the house, it is on me. Love it.....but would’ve bought the compact if it had been out back then.

Most often recommended and with good reason:
Buckmark
Ruger 22/45 or Mark ??

22's I've owned outside of the Big 3

Walther P22. Unsupressed it's pretty ammo picky requiring ammo with a little more oomph (i.e. 22 Mini Mags, or good quality 40Gr ammo). I've done some work to smooth the action but I've never been happy with how smooth the action operates. Suppressed it eats everything but spits back in your face horribly.

I have a Beretta Neos that will shoot anything you feed it. HEavy trigger that can be improved with a little work. Odd controls. Really a damned fine gun if you can find one. No threaded barrel so It sits unused.

Was hoping to see some S&W Victoria recommendations in here. Picked one up this weekend but probably won’t get the chance to shoot it till next weekend.

Some of the ones I have personal experience with and wouldn't hesitate to recommend are:

Browning Buckmark
S&W M&P22
Ruger MKIV
KelTec CP33

That last one is a fun one to shoot. Not a standard style pistol by any means but accurate and goes bang every time. The biggest plus it has over the others is the mag holds 33 rounds vs 10 for the others.
