My dad, uncle and I never missed an opener until I got older and let bowhunting ruin it.

We had an old camp we would stay at all weekend

I'm taking my boys out Sunday morning. Ole trusty 870 12ga. I don't have my hopes too high. With the full moon, they may be fat and happy before daybreak.

I'll be in East Texas the 19th through the 24th squirrel hunting, drinking beer, fishing, eating good food, and drinking beer. I like beer.

Generally shotgun, but I do like to take the ole 17 hmr out for a day and see if I can snag one. These forest squirrels don't stop moving for $#!t.

Same thoughts on my end. Plan is to ride the four wheeler slow and search for a hog more than a squirrel. He’ll have fun either way.

Honest question here: Do squirrels really feed at night?

I usually squirrel hunt in January after deer season. Less leaves on the trees..

I always thought they fed most commonly during the morning and before sunset. A quick google search shows they sleep at night primarily.

I wouldn't think a prey animal would feed at night but raccoons, armadillo and other small game do feed at night.

Lol... I can’t answer that although I will say on a new or full moon you won’t see near as many nor as active.

Nah, they get up with the light. I'm guessing he meant he hoped they weren't done feeding super early.

But, if the weather is right, squirrels will be active most of the day in the fall. They have nuts to hide, after all.

I've been seeing them out all day while deer hunting.

Heading out with the ole 22 mag. Hopefully get a hog and a limit of rats

Only times I can really recall having trouble with them is when there's plenty leaves still on the trees and it's windy as hell.
