Ski rope wrapped around my wrist and drug for what seemed like an eternity. Thought I was drowned for sure. Lost my bathing suit and pride cause there was girls on the boat.

I am ultra confused. Can we get Flair to draw it?

I've had a few "put on your lifejacket" trips that were pretty scary, but a buddy of mine and his uncle were fishing Fourchon all day...Loaded the boat and were hauling tail back in when they struck an "anchor rope?" which sheared the hull. He describes as the boat settled from plane, it continued to settle to the bottom of belle pass...It never stopped...No time for life jackets or anything...They both grabbed the handles of a floating ice chest. As they bobbed up and down in the darkness, seeing only the bellies of the fish they had caught that day, they both wondered if they would make it...at least he did...Said his uncle wasn't that alarmed...He was a teenager at the time...So they bob up and down for 3-4 hours until a crew boat spotted floating stuff and used a spot light to spot them in the water, picked them up and brought them to shore...He said it was pretty scary....I visualize it just from the story and it scares me....Intense crap....Needless to say, the few minor emergencies he and I have had on the water in the Gulf, I felt pretty safe with him...I can't imagine being in that predigament...I would be hearing the theme to jaws as I was bobbing around those fish in the water....Crapping a peach pit....

Glad you only lost your pride

It's loud and he drives as if he owns the place. We heard his entire trip from open bayou to the back of horse island where he met up with a group of scary people.

Almost sunk my boat in GI. Rogue waves in camanada pass while i was anchored. Pretty horrible shite. Good thing i was quick witted about it and started feeding out anchor rope to keep it from going completely submarine. Had 5 or 6" of water on the floor when it was over. No wind that day and no boats passed. I still dont know what caused them. Popped up about 20 yards infront the boat.

78 is hauling the mail in a 18 ft champ, esp for a 175. No offense, but Ive been in alot of fast boats and thats hard to believe.
I was kinda thinking the same thing. Been in a couple Bullets, a Blazer and a Stroker. Rode in an Allison with a RACING Merc 150 owned by a top tier Mercury certified mechanic that would run an honest 84mph back in the day.And I'm talking back when hotfoots were ONLY seen on raceboats.
78 seems a bit high for two people and fishing gear in a Champion.
72 I can see, with a stripped boat, the right prop and one helluva hot 175.
Just my 2 cents

22 ft sailboat. Mast is almost 30ft to the waterline. They don't go fast enough to escape thunderstorms, fronts, or tornadoes. All of which I've had to ride out. But an electrical storm with that huge arse aluminum pole poking up and all that wire holding it over you is just about the most nerve racking thing you can do. Even if you don't get hit. You can hear the rigging hum and we've had people get shocked just touching stuff on the boat. The boat was hit once but nobody was on it that time. After seeing what it did, it didn't help my anxiety about lightning much.

Had something similar happen to me, except I forgot to release the ski rope. Couldn't figure out why it kept draggin my arse.

2005 - 4 of us were headed offshore to go night fishing for tuna. About 45 miles offshore, one of my buddies heads down from the flybridge to take a piss. After about an hour, he hasn't returned. I figured he decided to stay in the cabin and take a nap. I went down to take a wiz myself and decided to grab something to eat. Didn't see Ray in the cabin. Didn't see him anywhere. Woke up my other buddy and asked if he had seen Ray. Said no, I thought he was up with you guys. It was at that point my heart stopped. I yelled for my other bud to stop the boat. Hunted high and low and could not find him. Can't explain the feeling you go thru when something like this occurs. All I could focus on was what was I going to say to his wife and children. We turned the boat around and started to follow our track back on the GPS. In the mean time I had contacted Coast Guard NO and was going thru the motions. It was dead slick calm. The weather was as perfect as I had ever seen. Also we had other boats had heard our distress call and had joined in the search. Would run the boat for a few minutes, kill the engines and start hollering for Ray. Did this for about an hour. Finally we thought we heard something. We started the boat and headed in the general direction. WE FOUND HIM!. He had been floating and treading water for about an hour. Asked him what the hell happened? While coming down the ladder on the flybridge, he had to put his foot on an ice chest which shifted and he went overboard. Said he screamed like a banshee, but with the noise of the engines, we never heard him. Said he really knew it was going to be a long night when the light on the transom went out out sight over the horizon. Had 4 grown men cying like babies on the deck of the boat that night.
The following weekend, another buddy asks me to go along on the maiden voyage of the 24 Cat he just purchased. We are 55 miles out when I smell something burning. Few minutes latter, smoke is pouring out of his back rod holders. A couple wires crossed and got hot. Cutting thru his hyrdrolic hose for his steering. Had lost all electronics & steering. Came back in by tying the motors as straight as would could and using the throttles to steer, a map and hand held compass.
Couple weeks latter, Katrina hits. Figured the big man upstairs was telling me I had reached my quota for the year....
