I had a Checkmate with a 150 trimmed up and pegged out. I was with friends hauling arse across Kincaid lake at 2 or so in the morning with no lights. I decided it would be a great idea to let go of the wheel for a millisecond. Well, in that millisecond the engine slaps to one side and the boat goes airborn in a 360 pirouette. Landed with the drivers side of the boat tilted down and that was it, quiet, wet...drunker than 10 indians. I kept the 'let go of the steering wheel' part of the story to myself in an act of self preservation.

I didn't because my lanyard thing was old as frick and a piece of crap, but we put a new one on it because the last one broke, so I'm making it a habit now. Especially since I don't have a life jacket on half the time anyway, depending on where I am

78 is hauling the mail in a 18 ft champ, esp for a 175. No offense, but Ive been in alot of fast boats and thats hard to believe.
I have never lightened my boat up to see what it would do, but loaded down, seats up, etc... I was running across Indian Creek a lil while back to hit another hole and saw 94. I realized then I didnt have my kill switch on or a life jacket so I came out or it. I need to stretch its legs and she what she will do I guess.

Yeh. 78 is hard to believe for a champion (heavy boat). 72-73 if everything was set up right. IMO anyway if not breaking coast guard regulations on hp motor... Wonder what it was rated for...??

Eta: speaking of kill switches... Topic was brought up this weekend at the camp... Did y'all know that they are outlawed in some states now? Boats were actually sinking bc the kill switch was accidentally pulled and the water came over the back of the boat

Yea but you're not running in winding canals and around stumps.

I've come close to ripping the lower unit off of mine at half throttle a few times. Wouldn't be pretty if I caught one at top speed.

I also almost got run over by some douche in an offshore CC on Blind River Saturday. He came out of a turn without coming off the throttle and kept drifting to my side until he almost put me in the trees before he let off. Then he looked at us like "what did I do wrong" when my buddy started cursing him out

There was a story on the hull truth a while ago that had to do with a guy who got into some nasty stuff offshore before a front. I think I remember reading that he said had he been wearing his kill switch, there was a good chance the boat would have sunk.

been in the mid 70s (maybe a little faster) on a Ranger with a 250 on it. Only thing touching the water was the prop it seems like.

Been well over 100 in a 42' fountain on a couple of occations.

Maybe the scariest was when I was riding my FIL go fast Seadoo (it would run 63mph). I was running across the river (TN River) and came up to a flying heron. Right before I got to it, the bird took a massive shite. I had the seadoo running as fast as I could and cut the handle bar. The seadoo rolled and I went flying and skipped across the water on my back.

Damn birds.

when he got the boat it gps 72mph.
He put on the jack plate ans got 2 more.

Little prop work got him another 1-2

Blew his connecting rod bearing and had to get a block rebuild.
Don't know what they did to the block but after it's break in period id did 77

I don't know what the trim extenders did besides almost get us killed.

These frickin things.

Was surfing behind a Mastercraft last summer when a storm came up. It hit hard as we rounded a bend in the lake and we had a waterspout in front of us. Ripped the Bimini off of the boat, Took the roof off a boathouse to the port side and lifted a double slip boauthouse with two boats in it out of the water and dropped them back down on the starboard side

To trim even more? Seems like it would become less eficient. I try to get the engine higher so I don't have to trim as much. But then again, I don't know what I'm doing 3/4 of the time.

I would like to see a ranger run "mid 70s" or faster

I think the fastest we ever got ours (21' 250 pro xs) was 72 with an empty tank of gas, one person, no gear, and a nice running chop. 2 people = 68-70 tops

Extended family was pooting around the lake on the float boat, cousin was sitting on the outboard when the transom broke, propeller came out of the water and grazed the side of his face before plunging in the lake.

lifts the nose higher and lowers the rooster tail causing more forward thrust

If that's what I think it is... It sets the motor further back so it sits higher but can still get the water pressure it needs. Really ideal. Mo, I have a buddy looking for some of those... Where can u get em?

some people just don't get this... Ideally, you shouldn't be shooting a rooster tail above the height of your motor...
