Stolen idea from Alx's thread.

What's your ____shit your britches_____ story?

Mine had to be running Grand Bayou Blue north from Point Au Chens landing with my cousin.
He has a 18' Champion bass boat with Merc EFI 175,Jackplate and 3 blade prop.

We were skipping along at 78 mph when the prop blew out in a slight bend.
Skipping sideways at 70 mph and watching everything fly out of the boat and almost getting tossed out ourself was my shite my britches moment.

trying to cross Toledo during a storm in a 15' Alumna weld with a 55 on the back. We had to stop behind an island and bale water. Twice.

Almost sunk my boat in GI. Rogue waves in camanada pass while i was anchored. Pretty horrible shite. Good thing i was quick witted about it and started feeding out anchor rope to keep it from going completely submarine. Had 5 or 6" of water on the floor when it was over. No wind that day and no boats passed. I still dont know what caused them. Popped up about 20 yards infront the boat.

I was a probably around 12 or 13. Going to stay at a barge out in breton island, left from venice crossed the river and out through Baptiste Colette if I remember correctly. Somehow there was water in the hull of the boat made and it made it very unstable, I just remember being told to put on life jackets as crew boats and what not were passing by.

Was going to timbilair island on a bass master, forgot gps, compas broke, got caught in freak random storm, was lost, 3-4's coming over ever corner of the boat(flats boat pretty much) Luckily found another boat out there who knew what direction land was, it was just about as dark as night. We never did put life jackets on though "bc it's bad luck"

My buddy whose boat it was just kept yelling "what the frick do I do?????" and all I had to say was "nothing now, fricking nothing, just pray we don't sink"

Fishing a tournament offshore two summers ago, we were 15 miles out from GI when a storm rolled in from the SW. Before we knew it we were surrounded on 4 sides by water spouts within 100 yards, as well as constant bolts of lightning and driving rain. I was a little scared. We laid all the rods down and everyone except my brother sat down while he pointed us north and gunned it through the 5 footers that were whipping up. Once we cleared the storm we were fine and got back to land OK, but it was pretty hairy there for a while.

Huge swells in Chatham Straight, didn't think we would make it. Had to hole up in Baranof Warm Springs Bay (maybe the most beautiful place I have ever seen) which turned out to be a blessing though.

Sea lion buzzing my sea cycle (technically a boat) in Lynn Canal.

Running across lake cat after thunderstorms all night and morning in a 16' cajun special. Already trying to avoid spearing a wave and flooding the boat, run through some grass, intakes clogged, engine overheats, alarm goes off and engine dies. Wouldn't start back up, wind was picking up and you could see a sick storm coming across Salvador. After a couple minutes I got the motor started again and we made it back to the launch just in time while the waves kicked our arse. I was shitting myself thinking I was about to have to ride out that storm in a boat on that shallow arse lake.

Second one, we got to the spillway during a storm, it had been raining all night. After about an hour it stopped raining, so we launched and took off. fished for a while, caught a few bream, started to run across grand lake right as a lightning storm hit. Turned right around and ran back to the launch in the rain in an aluminum boat with lighting popping wayyyy too close.

I now quit fishing when I see lightning. I can deal with the rain, but frick lightning.

Coming in from the lump about 20 years ago. We were in a cat during duck season. They weather man said the front would stall and no wind until the following day. So we went after tuna. Front didn't stall, we came back in the roughest seas I have ever been in. In the trough of the wave you couldn't see what was in front of you, you lost sight of everything, then coming up the waves you felt like the boat would flip over backwards. Then we got to enter SW pass, the river was at about 12' and the currents were opposing each other with rough side waves mixed in with the slop we were already in. About a mile from SW pass we could see ice chests and such that had been thrown out of the boats before us entering the pass. We got in the river and into Burwood cut and we all said a prayer and we weren't praying people. I hope I never go through anything like that again.

This should be interesting with others stories... I can't imagine loosing power at 70 mph in a bass boat!

Wow.

1. Just getting to top speed in a champion and following a bunch of boats from launch. Catch a chine or something and turn sideways. I mean sideways where port is up and starboard is down. It was so scary I don't really remember what all happened.

2. Saturday's spin out.

3. Crossing Rayburn in 25 MPH north winds with Craig Shuff. Dude floored his hotfoot and never came off it. I would hear the prop clear the waves every 4 or 5 seconds. The only thing keeping me in the boat was his 75 pound tackle bag under me with oh shite handle. He admitted he had thrown amateur partners before.

That time in the spillway we came around a turn and I felt the hair on my neck stand up right before one of the bolts came down. Not fun.

I've got one of those too. Did you know that sometimes your line won't come down out of the sky?

Front came through while we were fishing Venice... When we got to head of passes on the way back fog had set in on the river. So we stopped listened for boats and hauled arse across the river to the west bank. Stopped again didn't hear anything. Looked up and saw the crows nest of a tanker anchored out ab 100' from us. Couldn't even see the mother fricker. Tried taking our time trying to get back up river and almost got hit 3 times by people running with radar (one was the coast guard) that shite was NOT fun.

The other... We got caught in a lightning storm in bayou black. Lightning was literally striking within feet from us. I can honestly say I know what a lightning bolt looks like... Kinda like a 10x5 fluorescent light that's transparent (just charged particles).. My adrenaline was fricking kicking

yep,exactly like that.
Lost all steering and were headed directly towards a barge moored to the shoreline of an already narrow bayou.
Scary shite man.Evidently my cousin had been on a tear about squeezing out 1-2 mph more out of his already stupid fast boat.
Changed about 4 props, had custom grinds done to one, cupped and shite.Started fricking with his manual jack plate a bunch.
The final straw was when dude put some sort of trim extenders that made the motor trim out more.
Well,it was almost a deadly mistake.
He now has a 4 blade and the boat only does 72 mph.
