Back in mid-90's when I first started in outdoor radio, both Sam and Steve were very giving of their time and always were willing to be guests during the show. Sam would even come in and co-host from 5a-8a on Sunday at least once a month when show was on WYNK in BR.

Learned a great deal from both of them and time spent fishing with them was always an adventure and learning experience. He did love his popping corks ST!!

RIP to both

Did ST Mardi Gras with Sam for many years. What a trip, the epitome of the kind of guy you’d want to get drunk and cut up with. And as I’ve said before, Steve Shook was one of the best fisherman I ever shared a boat with. Sounds like 2020 just filed for an extension, and the suck is going to continue.

I work at the same National Guard Post as Sam in Carville. He died from a self inflicted gunshot wound yesterday here. It was very sad and shocking. Everyone who saw him yesterday said he was in a good mood and it seemed like a normal day.

Great guy and friend who would do anything for you; he loved to take take kids fishing, teach them how to fish, and he loved Louisiana. A Captain at heart, he would still try and run the trolling motor even when we was banished to the back of the boat He will be missed.

wise old man once told me, depression is the untimely demise of more men than all other ills combined... It may not be the final cause, but it's damn near always the root cause.

I don't know him personally, but by his persona on TV and videos i have seen, I would have never guessed that he would take his own life. RIP.

Sad when I heard about this yesterday. Sam was so full of life and quite the character. Prayers for his family. You never know what goes through ones mind

I’ve known Sam for a number of years and this is really sad news.

God speed my friend.
