re: If you had to kill a gator with your bare hands, how would you do it?
Posted by Cubera on 3/14/24 at 7:17 pm
For those advocating for the swing it around and bash it against a tree method I’ve watched enough Swamp People to know that a 6’ gator weighs 800lbs; so not a feasible technique. ...
re: Anyone try those oyster reef anchors?
not a fan of destroying any part of an oyster reef
It's oysters, not coral. In La. commercial oyster harvest is done by dragging a dredge across the reef and the reef persists just fine as long as cultch remains. Oyster are very resilient, fast growing, and respond well to distur...
Explain to me how saltwater intrusion affects ponds?
Many crops, especially rice, cannot tolerate any salt. Once the salt water gets in the field the salt binds with the soil and can take years to flush out.
You may have heard of conquering armies salting the land so enemies cou...
re: Why do Fried Oysters Seem so Flavorless the Last Several Years?
Posted by Cubera on 2/15/24 at 2:32 pm
It's not the oysters, it's the way they are frying them. For some reason, restaurants have forgotten how to fry a good oyster when it is so simple. Clean hot (near 375-400) oil, limit the batter (I used flour only), and pull them out quickly (< a minute; 30 seconds for small ones). Crisp, rich, ju...
I still don’t understand why the east declined so fast but Jefferson didn’t.
Section 8 Housing boom hit around same time as the East was taking off. Jefferson was already heavily developed and they worked to keep Section 8 out. From the old-timers I’ve spoken too the East was a g...
