Sorry to hear, he was a good one

Sad news. I liked Sam from what I knew of him. I am starting to wonder if being a celebrity fisherman in Louisiana is a curse:
Barry Brechtel
Tony Fontenot
Toephile Bourgeois

The star tournament guy? He was fairly young right?

Very sad to hear. I saw him on one of marshman Masson videos recently and thought to myself that he didn’t look well. Prayers to his family.

What? Wasn't he the host of LA Sportsman TV a few years ago?

Agree Kemosabee!! Great guy and always fun to be around. I saw him one of my last nights in BR and we had a good visit. Sad news when I got the call today. RIP

Not surprised, but deeply saddened. I’ve known him for years and always knew he was chasing demons. Scared he and I had too much in common.

Steve Shook too
The best speckled trout fisherman to ever live in Louisiana. Sad to lose both of them as both were awesome guys.

No Shook died last month I believe. He was a hell of a big trout fisherman, won a ton of SKA King mackerel tournaments. He put Fountain boats on the map. So sad to hear about Sam. Was a good guy. Didn’t realize he was dealing with inner demons. I ran to him a couple years back at our lady of the lake in BR. Hopefully he, Tony, Toe, and Barry are all fishing together in Heaven.

They’re arguing where to go, live or artificial and Sam’s already retied 9xs. In heaven Sam is a live bait fisherman, fishing under a cork. His favorite way to fish.
He’s going to kick my arse on the other side.
