The main reason for signing up onto this site/board was asking opinions on getting a 1 year old bloodhound/lab on tracking deer. Although I got a few bullshite responses, I got some serious tips and I thought the bullshite was hilarious, so I stuck around. Drug the liver, cut a piece off at the end, drug across bayous and sloughs, all for her to pick it up on the other end. It paid off for the most part.

Never really having time back in ‘13-15 to mess with her a bunch, I put her on some good trails over the years. She’s 17-2, one being a leg shite which lived and the other I’m pretty sure didn’t even get hit.

Ol Sadie girl ain’t doing too hot. She’s been slowing down over the last year, like a lot. Got a new pup 2 weeks ago and I’m pretty sure she’s not used to the young company, or as the wife pointed out, “y’all got another dog, I can go”. It kinda hurts.

I’ve always had the dog that like chasing wheels and chased a dually, back tires got her, or the one that was just a dog that we hung out with. This ol girl has been my beer drinking buddy, deer tracking, hanging out, loving everyone that came around, best bud.

I’m pretty sure I put some good “cooking and drinking threads” in the meantime, but I enjoy the shite out of the OB, so I thank y’all.

Saturday she collapsed while I was petting her and about knocked my bbq pit over. I noticed earlier in the day she was just hanging out in one spot, figured she was comfortable with her normal lazy arse. Then when I went to feed them in the evening, she turned her head to the the food. Sunday was the same ordeal. Wasn’t eating and only drank water when I put the bowl under her face. Called the vet yesterday morning and they only had tomorrow open. I guess the know her age and understood the symptoms I explained, not really worried about it.

But this ol girl done been through some shite, and I bring her to the vet tomorrow at 3.

We had a scare back in ‘21 where she had a vitamin B deficiency, shite cleared up and she acted 3 yrs old again.

Y’all say some prayers or have a thought, what have you, for ol Sadie butt.

Sounds like you two have had a great run and that’s what it’s all about. Sorry this time has come, but do what’s best for her. When they quit eating it’s the final sign they’re ready to go. No one will ever doubt how much you loved her. Or she you. Let her go. It’s the ultimate act of kindness you can give her.

Good luck.

Does her breath have a sweet scent to it?
If so, could be diabetes or ketoacidosys(sp?).
Drinking a lot of water?

Prayers for the ol girl
I remember reading this a while back, if you do have to put her down don’t let her be by herself you owe her.
f it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come please let me go.
Take me where my need they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end,
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

Honestly no…laid next to her on the ground since I was posting this until a couple minutes ago. She sniffed some food, but turned her head. Ate half of a hot dog, but turned away from the other half. Maybe drank 10 oz of water when I put it up to her face, tongue just plopped out and she lapped it up for about 10-15 seconds. She never even got up to pee

The only bad thing about a good dog is you don't get to keep them forever. I like to think that all good dogs go to heaven and wait for us.

dude, my lab and my boss' lab are both not eating much but drinking a lot

try giving the pup some chicken, that has been working

Vet did Xray, blood, and urine. We think he might have Canine leptospirosis but waiting on the results to confirm

Good luck

good looking pooch...wishing the best. Put mine down almost a year ago (after 13 years), and still miss him every day. Dogs are the best, but times like these suck.

Oh my. I don’t know why I keep clicking on these threads. Can’t help myself, I guess.

So sorry for your pain, and what Sadie is going through.
The not eating and drinking is a bad sign. Likely her organs are failing. Hoping and praying that is not the case and that the vet can help you get some more time to spend with her. I would recommend all the lap time you can, while you can.
