well if your hunting close enough for a duck to literally fly over my blind.... im gonna shoot the duck.

but i dont hunt trashy public land though.

This seems to be where most of the issues arise.

This is a terrible situation. It’s idiotic that a damn duck causes someone to lose their life, other than accidentally.

As to the private/public argument, I have a camp on a public lake that has lifetime permits on holes, and people have “private” blinds. All the hunters respect each other and I’ve never heard of anyone pulling guns.

Hope justice is served and all involved get peace.

supposed the specifics were that the shooter did not brandish weapon first?

Seems highly unlikely he didnt brandish his weapon first consider he shot 3 people.....

Seems he shot 3 people who werent pointing guns at him at all

Any money change hands on this draw?

I think you have to pay to get into the drawing but don't hold me to that.

I do know that you have to be present during the drawing and you have to give the state the names of your party (guys that also have access with you)

you have absolutely no way of knowing that at this point. Maybe one of the kids thought he was in a movie and that when you point a gun at someone and talk shite they do what you say, only to find out that in real life some people just shoot? Maybe one of them tried to shoot him first but missed? Maybe they tried to hit him with the paddle first and he's too old for that shite? Or maybe it went down exactly like the facebook post and the old man is a POS who should be hanged publicly? I don't know and neither do you.

And was any liquor involved? I obviously have a much larger stop button, so just shooting someone because you are angry doesn't compute with me. Or even just pointing a gun at someone.

Pretty fricking impressive to shoot 3 people with a shotgun if they were in fact the ones that brandished first. Thats all I am saying. Occam's razor would have the old man being the first one to draw

1 vs 3 and all are armed

for the old guy to be able to shoot all 3, I'm going to assume he got the jump on them

TWRA has a drawing every August for the public blinds on the lake. If you win a blind, it's yours for the season.

That's pretty cool.

Did it say this somewhere? Honest question. I was wondering if it was stated what kind of weapon was used.

According to a previous post, the young guy went to retrieve a duck and was shot, the second boy went to check on him and got shot and the third boy got into a physical altercation with the old guy

not sure if that is accurate, but not quite the same as 3 on 1 in close quarters

I'm guessing the old man brought a handgun or something to start shite.

Shooting at Swinging/ working birds sucks but this idea you only shoot at birds with wings that are set is absurd. Birds work and don't set all the time. Hell there's blinds that kill more birds that are swinging/ working then blinds that kill birds that are set.

I'll tell you one thing though, you shoot two of my friends and try to shoot me you will get more than a paddle to the head and there's not going to be any doubt if you are going to make it. Terrible story no matter what.

I got a "we tried to contact the landowner, but couldn't get him. We've hunted here going on 4 years now and not had an issue until now."

the other one is "well, there's no POSTED signs." Per LA state law, there doesn't have to be POSTED signs, baw. The old law was changed yrs ago.

Three sides to every story and I can guarantee no one in this thread knows the 3rd.

Details coming in, but apparently 3 younger kids were hunting someone else's private blind. The owner showed up and killed 2 of the 3. Supposedly the shooter is still at large.

That is not the story I heard. I guess we will find out more as this gets investigated.

Story I heard was they were sky busting a few times and this old man was mad and they argued over it on a previous hunt. The old waited for them the next time and ambushed them.

I don't think it has anything to do with hunting from someone else's blind. Reelfoot is public auctioned blinds. No private blinds or private land.
