Are state Bureau of Investigations called different things? They keep saying TBI like everyone knows what it is but I’ve never heard of a FBI (Florida) or ABI (Alabama). I think there’s a GBI (Georgia?).

There are some Vowells in the lumber business in NW Tennessee. I have no idea if this guy is part of that family or not.

Holy crap I've done some business with the sons. I think the old man was retired. I even think there's some grand kids working in the business now.

Terrible all the way around. Makes you sick.

It blows my mind the guy was 70 and still salty as hell about this. Maybe the 20 year olds were dirt bags I have no idea, but most 70 year olds aren’t picking a fight even with ahole young kids. They may throw some choice words occasionally but goodness.

You think he brought his AR to a shotgun fight? Surprising to me this guy would have gotten the draw on 3 much younger armed duck hunters is all.

Don't be too surprised. There are a whole lot of 70yr old men I don't want to get cross with.

From what I hear it was over someone shooting someone else's swing birds. The day I hunt in conditions where someone else can shoot birds I'm actively working, will be the last day I hunt that place. Screw that shite.

Old men are dangerous. There isn’t much you can do to them. They don’t have a lot to lose as compared to a younger dude. So, when they go off the rails, it can be bad.

I went on a hunt on Reelfoot 8 or 9 years ago. It was a last minute hunt because some friends had a trip cancelled on a Tuesday for that weekend. They setup the trip in two days. Hindsight it makes sense why the hunt was available, but we still had a good time. The hunting was terrible. The blind was enormous. It had a boat shed that you could have parked at least 5 boats in it. The blind had a kitchen, a room to put your stuff, and the room where you poked your head through the roof to hunt.

I think we shot 6 or 8 ducks in two hunts.

I can absolutely see how shooting swing ducks is an issue on this lake. The blinds are so damn close you almost get rained on with shot when your neighbor shoots. Also every blind had at least 5 flappers around them, no wonder the birds are weary of mojo's by the time they get to South Louisiana.

There's a post on the Reelfoot waterfowl board linked a few pages back. It says something like, in all caps: "It was not about shooting swinging ducks!!!!"

From a person who claims to be in the know. Usually the ones who are most emphatic about what they know early in these deals, actually don't know anything.

It does seem like the general consensus that these two groups had a history with one another.

The consensus is also that the old man took himself out and will eventually float to the top.

Who knows the truth. Hopefully the surviving victim makes a full recovery and can shed some light on things.

I hunt a public blind and every year I have to run somebody out of it. I ask nicely but always get lip about it being public blah, blah, blah. I then argue that I have been hunting this blind for over 30 years and have spent lots of money maintaining it and blood, sweat and tears building it. I also inform them that there are several blinds on the lake that are empty and if you would try to attempt to contact the hunters that used to hunt the blind, they would probably be happy to let you hunt it, it just won't be a lifetime thing. If not cicerowing my blind, they would set up close to me so ducks that do swing wide, they would shoot at them. This happened one year by some soldiers from Ft. Polk and I confronted them about how close they are to not only me, but to the blind north of them. Then went on to explain the empty blinds on the lake thing and their answer was we liked this location better. Well I know of hundreds of locations I would like to hunt also, but can't because somebody is already hunting there. And some of these hunters I confronted mention Reelfoot lake as it's they do it up there, why not here. Thanks Duck Dynasty!
