New to the whole AR10 platform, but been looking for a good setup. All of the setups that I've been looking at seem pricey. Is that typical of an AR10? Or am I just looking at the more expensive setups?

Examples:

SIG716G2 DMR: $3,000

Daniel Defense DD5: $2,900

POF-USA P-308: $2,700

Also - what are some recommendations for an AK-47?

And lastly...Anyone have an experience with Wilson Combat? They seem expensive as hell, but I really like the AR9 Carbine they have and that I can use my Glock mags.

The AR10 is a significant step up in price from the AR15 both for the gun and ammo.

AK's are a whole different game. You can get an entry level one for close to $500, and spend way more if you want. In my experience, they all go boom. I'd spend between $600 and $750 and get something just above the generic WASR's you see everywhere. Look at Yugo NPAP's, Norinco Mak90's (If you can find one) or other models that fall in that price range.

Wilson Combat is known for quality parts both for guns and magazines, particularly the 1911 platform. I don't know much about that gun specifically.

Yugo NPAP for Ak look on classic firearms website
or norinco MAK90 look on gunbroker or armslist

no reason to spend any more

AR10s are all over the place
a basic one is DPMS or the armalite model

That's very nice of you to offer such gratuitous NSFW material.

In the AR10 game you need to realize what you are willing to sacrifice for weight.

My highest recommendation would be the S&W M&P10 because it's one of the most affordable and one of the lightest in the segment. Piston ARs already are heavy and when you add more weight to the already-heavy AR10 platform it can make it quite cumbersome. The M&P10 also has excellent accuracy, rivaling that of a 308 bolt gun. Here's a solid review of one.

The Daniel Defense is fantastic from what I hear. If I were planning on spending that much though, I would buy a GAP10 with my money just because I love GA Precision and I know the GAp10 is a phenomenal shooter (also you can get a bunch of different calibers, I would get mine in 6mm or 6.5mm Creedmoor).

Yep, the AR10 platform is a big step-up from the AR15. Those examples are more top end as is the Larue, which is my go to rifle. If you are looking for a more economical version, the S&W makes a good AR10.

I have a sig 716 but I want to get rid of it and get something else in the ar10. I was looking at that gap10 but also the 2A .308 XLR-18 it comes in at 6.75lbs. Not sure how they rate in the ar10 world.

If you are going to spend 3K get a Gap10 or Larue PredatOBR 762. The lead time on a Larue is about 14 weeks and Gap 10 is a year. I have the Larue (I didn't have the patience to wait for the GAP10) with a 20" barrel and it's the most accurate rifle I have ever fired.

If I were buying an AR9 I would get a CMMG MK9. I owned the colt and it was a POS. I had to send it back to colt twice. I have a MK9 and added a Spikes 9mm buffer and wolf spring and it runs like a top. The Wilson may be great but at the end of the day I couldn't dump all that cash on a pistol caliber AR.

My brother bought a SCAR 17 in FDE a few months ago. I know he paid about $3400 for it. We went shoot it at Sherburne. Awesome rifle is all I have to say.

If you want to save some coin, but get a solid AR10, look into a model from Wyndham Weaponry that Academy carries. It is around 1100 to 1200 bucks, they are shooters. Really accurate. Couple of friends went that route, put a Vortex Razor on them and they are knocking down some big ole hogs in South Alabama.

I have a POF P308 and a POF415 in 6.8SPC, accurate as anything else and never a misfeed.

If you don't want to break the bank, get a DPMS LR308. I have one and it's the most accurate rifle I have. Significantly better than my Abolt but it's heavy as hell. 3 shot group in about the same bullet hole at 100 yds, you could literally cover them all with a nickel.

Yeah, looking for something a bit lighter than that. That Stainless Steel Bull Barrel looks nice, but definitely adds some weight. Good looking gun though.

Logged in to simply say: yes.

....but I do like my PA10, SBR'd M92 PaP, and SBR'd CMMG AR9.

POF isn't perfect. Friends 7.62 one had to go back to factory twice for some issue with upper.
Friends Sig is very nice.
