Is that typical of an AR10?

Yes - rule of thumb, anywhere from $750 to $1100 more for an AR-10 set up over a comparable AR-15 set up, excluding optics of course.

Also - what are some recommendations for an AK-47?

They haven't quite hit the renaissance that ARs have, because it is just a less modular platform - so the hobbyists never really got attracted to it in the same way. But, a hardcore user base has generated more options out there than there used to be.

The AK is a strange market - I guess we'll see if Trump opens the door back up to new Russian imports, which should send the price plummeting if that happens. If not, look for a Serbian N-PAP or Romanian WASR for value (anywhere from $650 to $800, depending on condition).

If you've got more and want a better AK, a Saiga conversion or Bulgarian SLR. There is a St. Petersburg company, Atlantic Firearms, that makes great rifles (by reputation, anyway), from mainly Polish AKM parts. These are all going to be around $1000 (or better).

Regarding the AK market, it seems as though some manufacturers are taking the 7.62x39 and pushing it through an AR platform...? Such as the CMMG MK47 AKM2.

I want and AK for it's reputation of being reliable & to add to the collection. Would I be sacrificing the reliability of going with something like the CMMG MK47?

I'm naturally drawn to the AR platform, but definitely not willing to sacrifice the performance of a gun because of the looks. If I can get both, that's just a bonus.

I dont know that gun but from what I gather yes you will. Keep the ak round in a ak if its your first. If you had a few of them then id try it in a AR platform.

If you aren't dead set on the AR platform, the Springfield Armory MIA rifles are a fair bit cheaper than what you posted.

Just don't do it. While imperfect, the Mini-30 is a better option.

If you want to shoot 7.62x39, get an AK or an SKS. Simplify your life (the things aren't even that expensive).

Don't do it to yourself. Get an AK - either a conversion or a grandfathered. For the price of that thing, get an AK, a SKS AND some ammo.

We talked a guy into buying a yugo in a thread like this a couple of months ago. He went with the NPAP with solid wood stock.

I like that one, but you can get this YUGO M70 AB2 for a little cheaper (This particular site is out of stock). Some people don't like the underfolders, but I personally think they look cool as shite.

the mini is my favorite, then SKS then AK...
the CZ 527 carbine is also a good option in that caliber
