Any owners could give an estimate of how much you’re spending a year? Maintenance, insurance, slip, gas, etc..

So many options. How old is the boat? How many motors? Are you doing the maintenance yourself? How well are you up keeping it? Open checkbook or allowing some minor wear and tear. Etc.

I’ve seen estimates that boats over like $1 mil should expect 10% of the purchase price in annual maintenance. If you simply want to turn the keys off and toss them to someone else, that’s probably about right.

Basically the universal rule of boats if you average it out over the life of the boat.

I’ll give you the answer my dad gives on these questions.

If you can afford that type of boat then you shouldn’t be worried about gas or maintenance costs. If you are worried about it then you can’t really afford that boat

5 years old. 2 motors. Most maintenance not done myself. Open checkbook

That’s a good answer and I agree with the advice but it really doesn’t answer my question

I’m sure someone will chime in but not knowing the size of the motors and the location you will dock and the type of fishing/distance to fishing grounds makes it a hard number to pin down.
Some numbers from years ago fishing a cat with twin 150s a buddy had from Venice to the floaters.
1k$ per trip for fuel bait and ice
500$ for a slip a month
Mechanic for oil and lower unit servicing 1k$ a year

Impossible to pin down. Short term it could possibly be near zero (comes with good trailer and good engines, covered storage, nothing bad happens) or it could be $100k (both engines take a shite, trailer is a dogged out hunk of shite needing work or replacement, lots of small problems, etc).

This size range is extraordinarily variable in cost of ownership. With the way parts and labor and materials have been the past couple years and OP planning to outsource most work, I don't even know how to guess without having a specific boat to review.

$5,000 in maintenance per year minimum. $500 every time you use it. If something doesn’t break it’s a good trip.

That’s just a start based on my 24’ cc and scaling it up a bit. This doesn’t include storage.

No storage included snd purely maintenance each year when i had twin 150s was 1400/yr average over 4 years. I pulled props and all each year. I figured full maintenance each year regardless of hours would prevent a surprise bill later. I sprayed my own corrosion guard and did my own battery maintenance. Thru hull connections may cost more for replacement but I didn’t need any over that time. I also did not have any livewell pump or bilge failures in that time. I did have some lights go out and my trim tab switch stopped working for a bit but that’s in the average.

Most people that can afford that type of boat didn’t get to that point financially by disregarding the true cost of ownership.

35ft triple engine CC
- Insurance is around $3500/yr I think
- We do 100 hour service ourself so whatever the cost of oil/filters is. If you get it done at shop I’d figure couple grand a year maintenance costs depending on how often you use it
- figure another $1-2k a year minimum for shite that breaks
- if you trailer it, figure couple hundred a year for shite on the trailer that breaks
- figure another $1-2k for random shite that you need for it that you won’t know you need til you need it
- another $1-2k a year for tackle, etc (depending on how much you fish)

And then add another couple grand a year because it’s a boat and it eats money

39 with trips

$6000/year ins
$400/ month storage
$80/month sat weather and music
$40/month sat texting
100 hour service is $500 if you do it yourself. Two of those per year
You will replace 1-3 pumps per year at $250 each
Roughly $500-1000/ year to keep the trailer rolling
Detail it myself but still costs $500 in supplies per year
You will spend at least $2000/year on a singular maintenance item. For instance this year I had to have my enclosure remade for $3600. Last year I replaced the cushions and seats-$5000
It has six batteries. You’ll replace 1-2 each year on average. They’re $500
You’ll burn 3000 gallons of fuel@4-5$/
Tackle is anything you want to spend on it, but if you’re this deep you dame sure don’t go cheap on the tackle. $2000 for tackle
And then occasionally a motor out of warranty will break and you’ll be out $4000-10000 to repair it.

This is way low imo. You can easily blow $1000 on a new rod/ reel. Once you have a boat of any size there’s a lot of stuff you may already have, but first buying a boat there’s so many things to buy the first 1-2 years from gaffs, to proper rods, etc

The more I think about it I’d say $10,000 per $100,000 of boat if you aren’t doing much of the maintenance yourself is about right. That’s before fuel, ice, and storage.

I'm talking about terminal tackle-hooks, deep drop rigs, trolling baits, poppers, halcos, islanders, jigs, sabikis, weights, fluorocarbon, etc.
