I kill everyone I see because they eat bird eggs, baby birds, and baby rabbits. I have Jack Russell terriers that take care of all snakes and vermin.

The one in my woodpile last hunting season looked similar to that (Mississippi subspecies?). He scared the shite out of me but I managed to not shoot him. He headed under the shack, so I hope he keeps it rat free.

No, "we" kill coyotes because we're afraid they're encroaching on our hunting. "We" kill snakes because we have an irrational fear of them.

= being a Pansie.

Yes, I said it. If you are scared of something that you know cannot do bodily harm to you, you are a puss.

Here's my daughter (age 4 or so at the time) with a rattlesnake. Although it's head was 30 miles away, I have no doubt many grown men wouldn't touch it. (I didn't kill it. Found it dead on the road and went ahead and cut his head off so I could show the kids without worrying about them lipping him like a bass.

I guess I just don't understand it. Don't get me wrong, I killed tons of snakes as a kid. I'm not against killing a copperhead or a cottonmouth in my yard or in my deerstand. But the "only good snake is a dead snake" mentality can only be interpreted as either ignorance or irrational fear. It's like going around cutting down every single tree in the neighborhood just because they may one day fall on someones house. As sportsmen we all should be half-arse educated on the wildlife where we live and hunt. Knowing what's dangerous and what is not should be a fricking requirement, rather than just a 7mm mag and a sack of corn.

You are absolutely correct sir. I do have one problem with them as I have six or so wood duck houses scattered about the lake and have had my battles with them. One can and will eat every egg in every Box they can find .They are tough and will fight so it is 45long colt with snake shot for them.

Just to clarify I don't kill every snake I see I would never kill a king, garder, or grass snakes. But rat snakes get a whack to the head. I've seen too many in bird boxes, nest or with a baby rabbit in their mouth to let them live. I guess growing up in the country raising chickens and rabbits you get a little hate for things that like to eat them.

I'm teaching my kids not to walk around in fear of things that can't hurt them, such as a snake with no head.
