If your craft cant handle a head on pass from a 20' bass boat at 16MPH in marked boat row then its not seaworthy.

It depends when you start your shut down... if you shut down right up on them, then you are correct. If you start your shut down early and idle by, then it's highly possible to leave no wake. It's not rocket science!

FYI - I'll wave people by, but if i don't get waved by, I shut down and respect my fellow boaters/fishers.

I'm not going to shut my boat down in a marked channel, you're telling me you're gonna come to a stop running across Toledo in a buoyed or marked channel?

Just seeing this thread. Where anywhere in this thread has anyone said this?

People are talking about passing in narrow canals. Looks like everyone pretty much agrees to stay throttle down and fly by in the main channels.

16 mph as you pass a boat that's fishing ? Please tell me (a) you're not 15 years old and (b) you don't drink a 12 pack of Old Milwaukee every trip.

There are places in S. Louisiana where you and/or your boat will get shot for that kind of immaturity.

1. Guy that goes half throttle. Dumbass. Sometimes called a “Scotlandville Wake”

2. Guy that goes full throttle. Thinks he is more important than the world. Nothing is more important than him getting to his spot 48 second faster. Sometimes called a “basshole” or “ol glittery arse”

3. Guy who comes off plane. A good baw

If there's somebody stopped in the middle of a channel on toledo they are broken down and need help anyway.

Where are you finding these people fishing in the middle of major boat ways? If they are you can generally pass very wide of them and keep rolling. If you have to pass close you need to idle. If you pass far and they are still freaking out then frick em, but I doubt that's what your are doing.

These guys that say if they don’t see the boat in time they don’t slow down are in the wrong.

If you don’t see the boat in time you are overdriving your line of sight. ( too fast, careless)

Kind of like overdriving your headlights in the fog.

You don’t catch fish going 70 mph. It is a complete ego thing.

The fastest going I ever caught fish was at 6.5 to 8knots. In the GOM fishing billfish.

Downvote away.

I see you've never fished on Caddo, Bistineau, Hosston, or a hundred other cypress bottom reservoirs, I'm talking about running boat rows not blowing by someone in "da maash" or on the river.

Merits on both passing on plane and coming off plane.
Salt ditch is a mile long and stacks up with boats in certain conditions, also a navigation channel where expectations should not be for smooth fishing. I’m not going to come off plane to go by 15 boats staggered an entire mile. 1-2 spaced out I will give way but it would take 30 min to pass a fleet.
I will wave you on but don’t do the slow roll at 10kts with your bow pointing at 11 o’clock.

Have no idea what you're talking about, perhaps you're projecting or confused.

My post specifically pertains to a clown who threw his arms up at me in a MARKED boat row as I went by him on plane at 15MPH. He should have gotten a ticket for an overloaded rig. He had about 4 inches to the waterli e as it was.

You must not fish a river or bayou much. You get someone bream fishing up on the bank around a corner and hell I’ve driven by boats at 30mph and never seen them until they are behind you. We aren’t talking about anything in front of you.

I agree though, you don’t slow down you either idle or blow by. It’s not a matter of wake size to me even though that’s the most important, it’s a matter of respect and showing that you have it by attempting to not wake them. If you see them far enough out the proper way is to go to idle at a point where there’s no wake on them which is further out then most think then when you get about perpendicular you can go on plane again.

I agree, but I usually go one step further. I'll often idle 40-50 yards past a boat before getting back on plane so that I don't wash the bank he is going to be fishing.

What were you in hurry for that you couldn't slow down to idle?

If you swamp a boat, kayak, camp, etc. if they have numbers from your boat and video or whatever, you will be responsible for any damages.
You're missing the point entirely. A bass boat on pad throws a tiny wake. To idle, that same boat throws two areas of max wake.

I pull for people to actually speed up as they pass me.
