Thanks for sharing this. Please message your rep this morning to support the 4 bills that regulate the menhaden reduction industry. The 22 ft depth buffer is huge.

The 22’ depth would be, to me, one of the greatest wins the public has ever received from the legislature to protect our natural resources. I saw the pogey boats last year within 1/4 mile from land last summer- it was sickening to me.

After the WLF Commission held its vote a few months ago, Rep Joe Orgeron contacted me and said he got my name from the WLF on a list of people who submitted comments to the buffer reduction proposal…..and only 600 people submitted comments. That’s f’d up. The apathy in our state is terrible. If more voters contacted their legislators, it damn sure would make a difference.

There’s a guy on FB who posts pics of the beach after they’ve caught all the pogies. And there’s pics of dead dolphins on the beach at grand isle.

So the common man goes to jail if he kills a dolphin yet pogie boats do it all the time and not only get away with it but also get a tax break and laugh their way to the bank.

No wonder why people move away from this place

HB855 was always a long shot. At least they passed the reporting bill, AIS location bill, and increased fines (which doesn't do much since they didn't touch the 1/4 mile buffer).
