Wife and I are putting ideas together for our future house and she asked me about an outdoor kitchen. I love cooking everything from gumbo to jambalaya to court bouillion to grilling and smoking meats. Thinking about it, I think an outdoor kitchen wouldn't be worth it. One of my must haves will be a man room and I plan on having a well appointed kitchen in there. I think an outdoor kitchen will just stay dirty (due to being outside/dusty) and I'd get more use from an indoor kitchen. If it's cold (aka gumbo weather), I'd rather be inside cooking. If it's dusk and not cold, mosquitoes will carry me away. I'll have a nice spot for my primo and a fireplace out there, just not a full blown kitchen.

I don't know if I'll get any honest answers from folks that have outdoor kitchens because no one wants to poo-poo something they spent a lot of money on but we'll see.

I agree with you, I have looked into it and can not justify the cost, and I like to cook a lot too

We are about to be finished w our new construction and we elected to build an outdoor kitchen vs "man room" or whatever you want to call it. The outdoor kitchen is just a 24'x24' screened-in area w a full size fridge, sink, stove, bar and mounted TV. Keeps the bugs out, can wash it out if we have a crawfish boil, can put heaters in if it gets too cold or turn the fans on if its too hot. Id rather have that little out door area that way I can save $ for an actual camp for the family to enjoy than rather spend that money on a "man cave". Just my opinion. Good luck!!

If you going to have a shed with a kitchen I wouldnt do an outdoor kitchen. I have a couple burners out side that I fry food with and boil seafood just to keep the smell out the house but If I had an indoor kitchen seperate from my main house with the abilty to do that I would cook it inside. I also have a little flat top grill that I use alot outside.

If you two are into entertaining then an outdoor kitchen is great as long as it's in a screened in or fully enclosed porch. I don't like people enough to invite them over for anything so I'd invest more in the kitchen and just leave a gas hookup for a grill, burner, and maybe a firepit.

We love entertaining and will have a great outside area, this is just specific to building an outdoor kitchen with stove, fridge, cabinets, sink, etc.

I think it depends on if you entertain or not. If you spend time outside with friends and family, then it could be a good investment.

We thought about it but opted to build an outdoor fireplace instead.

In your case it would probably be worth building. Just think heavily on what appliances you really need built in. If the floorplan has pretty direct access to the kitchen then maybe skip the stove, build in a nice grill with a high output burner on the side, a good ice maker instead of a fridge, etc. I'd rather ice down a cooler or two for guests than keep a fridge stocked and running all the time.

I don't have an outdoor kitchen, but I think I'd agree with you on this.

For my needs I'd rather have a nice kitchen inside of my shed/man cave. I'd also like to have a nice area to grill/smoke outside - maybe a nice counter/prep area and possibly a sink, as welll as a spot to hang out and entertain. I have been around several full blown out door kitchens and if they aren't set up properly they stay kind of dirty/nasty and seem like a lot of upkeep.

I know people say screen areas in and what not, but I'm not a big fan of screened in areas. To me, it kind of ruins the ambiance of actually being outside.

Talk about a game changer is a mosquito misting system. Ive never heard of it until recently. Ol boy had 6 acres and you could walk damn near all of it buck naked and not feel the 1st skeeter. We sat atleast 200 ft from their backyard and never felt a bite. The fkn skeeters in mawrice will carry you away. I will have one by the spring!

In Louisiana and it's humidity? Overrated. I'd use it from late October to mid December and March to mid May.

We are close to buying a house with a outdoor kitchen. Which consists of a sink, a bbq pit, and a small frig. It’s a neat unit. I’m
Not sure how much the appraisal will give the kitchen. But I’d rather have someone install and pay for it
Even with the gas grill I’ll still use the green egg

Outdoor kitchen always meant "unconnected" piece of house in my day. Also known as "we living here while we build the house in the front". If you're talking about outside kitchen connected to the house, that's a patio! In that case, not worth it.

I'm 90% done building my outdoor kitchen so I can't tell you how much use I get out of it yet but I think I'll use it a good bit. I decided to build it because I cook a lot outside any way and just wanted a nicer more finished looking cooking space, rather than having my grill, smoker, table, burners, etc. all being separate pieces. The kitchen just brings them all together and makes it look much better, and the added storage and counter space will be awesome. If you're having to stretch the budget to fit it in I'd probably pass for now, but if you can swing it I don't think you'd hate having it at all.

Sounds like you'd get more benefit out of some gas and hot water hookups on the back side of the man room, and a nice outdoor living room/seating area with a TV.
