Opinions/thoughts on Benelli M2

I am looking to buy a semi-auto 20 gauge and posted a want to buy ad on a site. A guy reached out to me with a like new Benelli M2(black)and told me he would take 1k for it with chokes. It seems like a good price. I have never shot a Benelli and am familiar with the Browning gold as I have a 12 gauge and have borrowed buddies Remington 1100 and 11-87 20 gauges in the past. I have not disliked any semi auto shotgun I’ve shot previously, but admittedly, my barometer is not very strong to know one way or the other. Please let me know your thoughts if you have experience with the M2 or another 20 gauge semi.

Can’t go wrong with any Benelli semi auto. The M2 are really nice guys. I love all my Benelli shotguns. I have several browning but I love my Benellis more. Plus there customer service is great to deal with.

Buy it and get on gunsprings.com and buy a wolff +25% recoil spring for it. It'll completely do away with the dreaded "benelli click". Once you do that you'll need to run a box of duck loads through it for it to cycle light loads reliably. Once you've done that you'll have the most reliable 20ga semi auto on the market. No telling at the 1,000's of rounds I've put through mine and it still runs like a champ

I've had my benelli for 6 years now and have never experienced this, nor have I ever seen it in a really long time of hunting with other people who had them. I think this is made into a way bigger deal than it is.

I tend to agree. I've never had that happen with my 20g. M2 and I've shot the lightest of dove loads to heavy duck loads through it. Maybe once or twice in 12 years with my SBE2, but only when the gun was extremely dirty (not cleaning internals for 2-3 years). I'll break them down after season each year, like you should, and clean thoroughly and never have an issue.

Is that where the bolt gets closed too lightly and doesn’t actually twist into battery?

Gotcha. I’ve had the ‘issue’ on Xtremas, M2s, and a Franchi. Part of autoloaders, to me.

I've seen it at least ten times. It does not happen in normal shooting. It happens 100% when manually loading a shell.

Bought one and duck hunted with it for two years. Must have been the way I hold to shoot but it would rub the skin enough to bleed on one of my fingers after a few shots. I traded in for a Beretta A400. Otherwise, it did the job.

I dont understand this. You drop a shell in and press the button. Everything that happens after that is the exact same as shooting. Are they trying to ease the bolt forward or something?same person every time?

On an AR if you don’t release the charging handle from where it stops and instead try to do it quietly it won’t always go into battery. There is a forward assist to push the bolt into battery.
Benelli does basically the same thing. If you bump the charging handle or try to be quiet, push that charging handle forward to lock it into battery so you don’t get a click.

I can purposely close mine where it isn't all the way into locked, but I have to do it intentionally. If I so much as shake it it'll go all the way in.

I shoot a 12 gauge M2 and think it’s amazing.
The three 20 gauges I’d recommend would be an M2, beretta a300, or Winchester sx4

Cousin bought an M2 brand new and wouldn’t fully eject the first shot shooting 3” steel at ducks for a couple hunts the first season bought it.
