Also have a switch by both sides of the bed that can turn on or off all the interior and exterior lights.

Unless meth or bath salts are involved. That's why I'd prefer not to rely on it

Then again, I'm not in law enforcement and I would only use a shotgun to defend my castle.

In close quarters, I'd take a twelve over almost anything. Taking someone else out, it would be over a very long distance.

Same. You're playing defense, not offense. The pistol grip helps with cqc because you're not swinging the gun from side to side like you would when wingshooting

it was tactics that saved the guy and his wife. Chance favors the prepared mind.
Bingo! The guy did so many things right:
-Caught the BG in a funnel
-Caught the BG at a rotation point
-Got below the BG's anticipated line-of-sight
-Initiated the contact
<and here's the sound of stirred-up shite>
-Had a superior weapon for the situation over a fig with a shotgun!

(Actually, the homeowner would've also done fine with a shotgun in this situation since he ambushed.)

Better (and safer) to barricade the door, take cover, call 911, keep 911 on the phone and put the sights of the shotgun on the door.
Ah-HA!...the cause of our sticking point.

Perhaps this is where different situations cause divergent thinking. I want to get to my kids' room ASAP, so I need to be mobile. Were it just me and the wife, then barricaded in the bedroom with a shotgun would indeed get the job done perfectly.

In the scenario I presented, I was assuming that one had already assured the safety of kids in the house. It's not necessary for me to clear the house in order to assure the safety of the kids. I can get to my kids'rooms carrying a shotgun.

Anybody that willingly enters my house against my will when I have a shotgun in hand has committed suicide.

Looks like you are ready. We have a plan here but really need to review each defeder's role on a regular basis to be as proficient/efficient as possible.

In a stressful situation I want what I am most comfortable with, I feel has the largest margin for error and packs the most firepower and that is a shotgun. I also have a handgun nearby but if someone breaks in, the 870 will get the first call.
