The good news is you can't go wrong.
This. Well, you could, but it would take some effort. There are so many solid choices the only real answer is to try to shoot as many of them as you can and pick a favorite. Then put a couple of hundred rounds through it to break it in and make sure it’s reliable. Anybody can put out a poor example of a great design, so make sure you didn’t get the rare lemon.

Shield is really nice to shoot. Very accurate. More accurate than Glock 43.
Accuracy lies with the shooter.

Hey, Dude. Haven't seen you in ages. How's it going?

I currently have a S&W SD9VE. Bought it about 4 years ago at Academy when they had it on sell for $280 or 290. Not a bad pistol for the price. Only downfall is the trigger pull is heavy (almost 8 pounds). Haven’t shot it a ton but after 300 rounds I never had a jam or misfire.
Also, I want something different. Been looking at the new S&W M&P 2.0, SA hellcat, and a couple of the Canik models. Really like how they feel. Went into one of my local outdoor stores yesterday and they told me I could get the Glock 17 Gen 5 or 19 Gen 5 through the blue label discount for $440. Looking for something under $500 and something I could carry.

I have had Glock 43, 43x and 365. I now carry a Springfield hell cat. Fits my had better than a 365 and I shoot it better than the Glocks. You can get 12 13 or 15 round mags for it and it’s a pretty good setup with a red dot.

I love my two Caniks. Smooth triggers, good prices, they go bang.
Big big fan of Canik

Bought a canik rival a month ago for shits and gigs, it’s impressive out of the box. Not selling all my glocks for them just yet, bc the support isn’t there yet. But they are certainly on my radar now.

No matter what you do, you'd better act fast less Amnesia Joe gets his way.

I hear the Glock 9mm will blow your lung from your chest. I would go with that one.

Obviously you aren't keeping up with current events. Yesterday Biden opined to reporters about the destructive characteristics of the 9mm pistol.
Somewhere between a 12 gauge slug and a 105 howitzer IIRC. Surely you trust your president.

I owned the S&W SD9VE. I am not a great shooter by any means and the rough heavy trigger pull made me even worse. For a carry gun, I bought a Canik SC Elite. I was blown away Bc I expected the compact to be even harder to shoot. But the Canik trigger was so much smoother my accuracy was night and day better. So I sold the S&W and got a full size Canik for home defense.
I understand the S&W is a low end model and it never jammed on me so it’s not a bad gun at all, just not the easiest to shoot.

I got a fairly tight shot group with the SD9VE but I struggle shooting with that first round after resetting or magazine change. I think there is a spring kit out there to reduce the trigger pull. I think my biggest issue with it is that I can’t get a comfortable grip with it. For the price, it is a pretty decent pistol.
I picked up a couple different Canik’s the other day (can’t remember the models) but they did feel comfortable and the trigger felt great dry firing. Definitely will be taking a second look at them when I get ready to buy another pistol.

The SD9VE was my first pistol so I’m sure it was my shortcomings more than the gun’s. But you will like the Canik trigger.
