looking for something to replace a red dot that will provide some magnification for longer shots. I've been looking hard at the Vortex Strike Eagle in 1-8x but seeing quite a wide variety of reviews on them.

CDS dial is untuitive and fast...I prefer cleaner reticle vs the Vortex clutter.. not quite magnification range you asked about but, IMO, ability to accurately dial is more useful than couple extra pwr

Leupold 1.5-5x20

I think several of those are made in the same factory, the reticle is about the only difference. Love LVPO's, never use red dots anymore.

I have an Atibal 1-8x I got from Optics Planet for $299, its just fine.

Swampfox, atibal, Primary Rrms...probably very similar with slight proprietary changes.

to be mounted on a pistol, 30-30, SBR for shots < 100 yds ?

I would call Doug or one of his CS specialists at Camera Land USA. Extremely knowledgeable and their prices are hard to beat ... no tax and no shipping charges ! His prices are very cheap since he buys in huge volume with little mark-up cost. Camera Land clearance and specials Use the filter to specify scope options ... 1x6, 1x8, etc... I've been a customer for 20+ years and have spent thousands and never been disappointed.

Those big mag ranges are tempting, but nothing's free. In general a $300 1-4x is going to be noticeably better than a $300 1-8x, so if you can live with a lower magnification range you'll get a better scope for the money.

I have one and it sucks if you zoom over 3x. I’d go Leupold or primary arms. Probably my most disappointing scope for the money I paid for it.

I'd try to find a used Vortex Viper 1-6. Vortex is a great company and you won't beat the Viper for the money.

Safe to say you're wanting to keep it under $500?

I have 2 1-8 but one is a Trijicon and the other is a Nightforce, either I'd highly recommend.

One thing I will say, save your money. A higher end Vortex, Leupold, or Nightforce will be much better glass than something sub $500

If you are keeping it to sub 100 yards you are probably better off with less magnification and getting better glass.

Delta Stryker HD 1-6. Made at same factory in Japan as a lot of other high end scopes such as vortex and trijicon. Same glass just a small company. Same exact turrets as trijicon credo and similar brightness, FOV, and disappearing scope body to the Razor 1-6. Some awesome videos on them on YouTube and you can find them for around $850

Europtic has a close out on vortex ranger. It’s a 1-4 but a step up from the strike eagle.

I'd grab a swampfox arrowhead. If you add a shirt to cart direct they ship for free. Usually you can find a discount code online to put the price in line with the cheapest online vendors.

Vortex is a great company to deal with and they honor their warranty. Swampfox is just better. Both companies have really improved budget optics.

Any recs on an LPVO for Ruger PCC. Old eyes don't do red dot well. 1-4x or 1-6x all that is needed. TIA.
