Good friend of mine got busted last night by the green jeans for spotlighting and shooting two deer. He lost his job due to the virus and times have been tough for him and his family lately. He tried to tell green jeans that he was just trying to put food on the table for his family, the guy didn’t buy any of it. Is there anyway we can get him out of this? The last thing he needs is legal trouble right now, and he’s just a good guy trying to do what’s right for his family.

if your buddy is such a great american, why didn't he just shoot ol green jeans and keep mowing down does to eat?

just shoot a cow, much more meat and you can just drive up to them.

I know desperate times call for desperate measures. But there has to be another way to feed your family in 2020 than poaching deer out of season.

And to answer your question, there’s not much anyone can do to get him out of this.

I could understand more if it were 1 deer. But two? Pretty sure he could trap coons or something and eat them. There is also food giveaways in most places from what I've seen.

A fishing pole is cheaper than spotlighting deer. Go catch some catfish from the bank. Not sure what your friend was thinking.

I would advise your friend to admit guilt, offer inexcusable explanation to judge/powers that be, and recommend self-punishment ($ fine, hunting probation, etc.).

Usually enforcement agencies will go along with a self punishment and admission of guilt.

At the end of the day, your friend is an idiot. Plenty of legal and free means to put food on the table (support groups, churches, etc.).

I told him the opposite. I’m curious what green jeans is doing out on public land at 1 in the morning. Something doesn’t seem right there and that needs to be looked into, hopefully he’ll be able to get the charges thrown out.

You know why green jeans was out on public land at 1 am?

That's when the poachers are there.

Me thinks there may be more than one idiot in this story.

You shouldn't be. Seems pretty obvious.

Probably wasn't the first time your friend did this. He just got caught this time. Likely why green jeans was there.

This sound like a thread I remember about a guy asking if he needed a fishing license if he was only practicing fly fishing. He wasn't going to keep the fish, so he wasn't really fishing.

Did your friend ask you for help with groceries before shooting said deer? If that was my friend and his family truly was low on meat we would have used my freezer until it was empty or I would have loaned them money until they could get their feet back on the ground.
Are you sure your friend don’t just like to spotlight deer, I doubt he will get out of the charges...

And one good size hog is a hell of a lot more meat on the hoof than a deer, and they're legal.
