Midsize truck recommendations

Looking to buy a midsize truck. New or used. Must be 4x4. Won't be a daily driver, just a weekend truck for camp trips, fishing trips, hauling, etc. Thinking i would prefer to stay away from a turbo charged 4 cyl. engine. What does the OB recommend? TIA

Then you have limited options for new. Nissan, Honda (insert gay joke here) or Ford. You still get mandatory turbos with Ford but you can get a turbo 6 that's not working nearly as hard as the 4 bangers. If you're not rock crawling any of those will do trail work. I really enjoyed my Ridgeline but they give people the feels.
For used a Tacoma is an option. And for what you're using it for I'd definitely buy low mileage used.

Unless you get a manual. My 2003 Tacoma 4x4 has the 3.4 V6 and the manual and it’s been rock solid for 251,000 miles. I don’t drive jt but once a week but everytime I’m out and about someone asks to buy it, they really want it when they see it’s a manual.

Ridgeline. Do not care what others think. Mine is a ‘22 and I’ll drive it until the ‘29s come out.

If the specs work for a person they're fantastic trucks/vehicles/minivans whatever people want to call them. I had a 1st Gen and a 2nd Gen, but I gave up waiting for another update.
I now have a 26 Ranger Raptor that is friggin fantastic, I'm just not sure about reliability. I generally keep trucks about 10 years but if I don't trust it I'll move on before the warranty is up.

Colorados/Canyon Turbo 4 cylinder is a great engine. Problem is with the transmission and infotainment center m, they both suck. My son had a Canyon, it was great looking truck and plenty powerful, pulled my 22' Skeeter with no problem. But the infortainment center went out twice and the transmission shifted really hard till it was warmed up. Also, going down the HWY 70 mph and it would automatically hit thr brakes on him from the fwd crash avoidance system going off. He had the new model, maybe they got better, IDK.
At the time he was looking it was between the Canyon and Frontier, during the vehicle shortage. He decided on the Canyon but wishes he would have got the Frontier. Now hes in an F150 with the 5.0 with no issues.

I bought my son a newer Nissan Frontier for college a couple of years ago and it’s been great so far. It originally had a slight noise on the interstate coming from the windshield but they fixed it immediately with a new seal. Other than that there’s been no issues.

5.7L Tundra
but what's "midsize" anymore, midsize = 1/2 ton vs 3/4 = full size? Physically my Tundra is much bigger than my dad's last truck which was about the same size as my 1st gen Tundra but all were 1/2 ton trucks.

Pretty much, I think all modern midsize trucks are 1/2 tons based on how the term has been used. And for most of the world our midsize are their full size trucks as their roads can't handle our full size, which is why (one of the reasons anyway) you saw Nissan drop the Titan. This is pretty much the only market for them but they can sell the Frontier everywhere.

The OB is learning what I've been screaming for 10 Damned years.
Nissan never had an issue building anything body on frame with a real transmission under it. ...it just built a lot of shitty everything else.
To the OP, this is the Nissan f alpha platform
From 2024 onward it has even MORE bracing and structure added.
Some argue c channel is better because it can flex... Open a tailgate on a fullsize truck with a c channel frame when extremely offcamber...then tell me which you would prefer.
That platform was under their fullsize trucks as well. Everything under that frontier is overbuilt.
