It may be outdated but it’s not overrated.

If shooting subsonic, not at all.

Suppressed .45ACP is an amazing round.

(147 grains in 9mm) vs. (180 grains in .40 cal) vs. (240 grains in .45ACP) with same muzzle velocity.

Take the .45ACP if shooting subsonic.

Special Ops use the .45; that should answer your question.

Not all of them. They have their choice and many take 9mm

Yea. Should be replaced by 10mm.

10mm and 357 sig should be whats popular these days

Personally I think the marginal increase in stopping power/effectiveness is negated by the huge difference in capacity and size of guns 9mm has over .45 guns

9mm is a .45 set on stun. Just Kidding - saw that years ago in some ol boys signature line on a 1911 forum

No, but you can't appendix carry a .45ACP; I can a 9mm. I'd be comfortable with a .45ACP as my nightstand gun instead of my 9mm carry weapon, but I'd not want a .500S&W magnum for home or personal defense. However, I want that .500S&W magnum on my hip if I'm hunting in bear country and that .45 and 9mm left at home.

The right tool for the right job and all that jazz.

It was a great idea in theory. .40 powder pushing a 9mm bullet, flirting with .357 Remington performance - in theory. In practice, it is neither the smooth shooter the 9mm is, nor the stable platform a 6" bbl Colt Python or Smith 686 is. Ergo, instead of the best of everything, you have a snappy round that is hard to find, expensive, and not really an upgrade in any direction (certainly not over your better 9mm +P, for example).

The original loads did exactly what they were supposed to: push a 125gr bullet 1450 fps to duplicate 357 magnum performance in a self shucker.

Loads were promptly watered down to 1350 to control recoil and so that normal 9mm bullets could be used, and that whole advantage went out the window. Same story as the 10mm. Get great performance as designed, and then promptly water it down.

Sig really shite that one all up. Its still an excellent cartridge with shite poor marketing.

Soon hornady will release something very similar, but not watered down and with spectacular marketing, and it'll take off.

I dont get the spot for the .45 acp anymore outside of suppressors. If you're shooting open muzzle out of that size gun, make it a 10mm and get your horsepower worth out of that big grip.
