No worries man. Beaux is a great dog regardless. Just gonna need some special attention.

Sounds to me he couldn't train it over night & probably hit the dog at some point & said frick it. I think a little time & praise will do the trick

So, I get home from T-ball game and find both dogs gone. dug out of the back yard again to go chase some game of some sort. I searched the neighborhood for over an hour and the surrounding area. No signs of either. When I returned home the lab mix was back smelling of skunk and limping on her left front paw. The male was nowhere to be found.
Still no sign of him this am.
I guess, he has moved on either eternally or physically. I will give it a week or two and start looking for a pup that I can train correctly from a young age.

Doesn't sound like it was meant to be...

Bummer BP. If you end up looking for another small retriever, I have nothing but great things to say about my Boykin and got her from a kennel just north of Texarkana. The females top out around 35 and males around 40lbs on the high end. If you end up wanting/needing a reference or contact info, just hit me up.

The sad part is when we first got him we had him chipped. Considering there are only two vets here in town, if he was adopted by another family and then goes to the vet that chipping may come back to haunt me.
in all honesty I am thinking poodle for my next dog if I do need to find one.

I'm sure you are aware they make great retrievers, I just couldn't ever get past their appearance. The wife and I talked about them but she would have wanted it groomed with a show cut which isn't conducive to hunting and is just plain ugly in my opinion.
That's just a gorgeous looking dog.

Beaux looks a lot like that, with the exception of a slightly longer tail, shorter legs, and a broader chest. His hair was flatter on his head too but the coat was nearly identical to that poodle.

Being the previous owner of this dog...I can assure you he was never beaten by me!! Winston as he was once called was only exposed to a shotgun one time with me and he was deathly afraid. As you know, Bleeding...I only had him a few months before you took him from me and that owner only used him as a back yard pet, never left the yard, only swam in a pool, never exposed to the great outdoors as was my plan. I also advised you he needed professional training as all I had time to do was a few short sessions of obedience and a water retrieve here and there. The Humane Society in Athens just called me they have Winston, and he has been sprayed by a skunk!! This is the only way I have to get in contact with you as I got a new phone and lost my contacts. The Humane Society wants you to tell your vet to change the microchip to your information, they called the original owner, who gave them my number.

Yeah, this is great!
Buy a lab pup from a reputable breeder and ALL of these problems vanish. Like a fart in the wind.

BP is not online. I wonder if he is out looking for the dog.
Somebody might as well dig up one of the old threads on how to remove the skunk smell from a dog.

I love things like this, someone is mad because the dog has learned habits he previously did not have and the blame falls on who they got him from. The original owner (who was unsure of getting rid of him, they screened 4 guys and he and his wife picked me due to my Police K9 experience) had first dibs on getting the dog back if I had to let him go. I tried and the previous owner refused to take him back due the damage he had apparently done to his fence, which I was unaware of when I got him. In the few months he was with me, no fence was damaged and he never tried to leave the yard, or dig out. I exposed him to the woods and salt water lake, freshwater pond, and he even came on a wood duck hunt with and stayed in the kennel in the truck about 100 yards, from the blind. After the hunt we exposed him to a shotgun with some retrieves. He was scared of the gun but made 3 maybe 4 retrieves before loosing interest in the dummies. He was put up and never saw a gun again with me. I began searching for professional trainers in my area and no one was willing to take him as the were unfamiliar with the breed. In January it was discussed with my wife the best thing for him would be to give him to someone without a new baby on the way(march 5) and who had the funds to pay for the training I knew he needed. Put an ad on this board and he was placed again being screened as there were certain people who contacted me and I just did not like the conversations we had. So i made a choice on who could have him and now they want to blame me. That was 5 months ago and he is just now being introduced to a gun? Sounds to me like he was pet again for a few months before training. I am not trying to cause a fight or anything, the couple was very nice and seemed thrilled to be getting the dog. But now they are gonna put public "I know the previous owner lied." Nah, not my way of doing things...
