I used it constantly in my college truck. Single cab Silverado with rubber floors and 33" mud tires. So when I graduated, got a new z71. Quickly realized that now that I didn't have the beater fun truck, I wasn't taking my nice vehicle too many places that needed 4wd. Haven't gotten it since and have gotten by. Camps I go to are mostly 4 wheeler/golf cart only. So just not worth the extra money in my case.

I use mine a lot. I use it everytime I go fishing in a gravel pit and to drive arcoss sand bars on the river. But probably only 2 to 3 times of year for mud. It pays for itself the first time u spin tires in wet grass on a hill and know that someone would have to give you a tug if you havnt had 4x4. If you do any hunting or fishing get a 4x4.

Part of me wanted to try to find a car and a beater truck but with kids that I hope to take to do stuff in the truck with, having to deal with maintenance on 2 vehicles and finding a good used 4x4 crew cab within budget, I didn't go that route. If passengers aren't a big concern, maybe that would be a good option.

I do go off-road in 4wd about 15 times a year. Icy roads happen here 3-4 times a year.

I lease from them in Miss, got stuck in my 4x4 last hunting season on a road to a stand. Had to get a Tundra & a Jeep to pull me out

I use my 4x4 in my truck almost every weekend. That being said our camp is on a big hill with a gravel road going up to it. Pulling any type of load won't happen with out it.
Good to have if you need to get around the yard or a wet area with out tearing it up.
I will never own a truck with out it.

When I've needed to use it I would have been in a bind without it (10 or so times in 4 years). I've put it on to keep from rutting up the grass, pulling out some bushes, and a couple of slick hills.

I'll be honest. I have it on my truck and it's not worth it. I use it maybe 2x a year and one of those times it's borderline needed.
But damn the sticker looks good

I've owned this 4x4 for almost a year. I don't seek mud, but I've taken my truck places I never would have tried with 4x2. I'd say I have put it in 4x4 maybe 10 times.. I may have only needed it 2-3 times, but I like the peace of mind knowing I can handle some wet grass.
If you can afford it, buy it. You'll use it or find uses for it.

Drove 2WD for years, hunted and fished regularly, in my experience, WHEN you need 4WD you NEED it, there were times that I couldn't launch a boat or get to a certain spot to hunt ducks, I would have written a check for the difference on the spot to get 4WD Bought 4WD two trucks ago and havent looked back.

I use mine all the time, would never go back to a 2WD. But I also work in construction and enjoy doing man stuff on my off time.
It depends on the person...if you are a doctor, live in a country club, and your only hobby is tennis...a 2wd would suit you just fine.

OP, save that extra 10K and try to find a Jeep XJ 4x4 in good shape, add a lift kit and good tires. That will cost around 3K and to insure it cost less then $400 a year. Why the hell put a 45K truck in the woods to just to dent it all up?
My xj, in the last 6 years of having it, I saved a ton of money and hitting a tree or knocking down 8' tall over growth is not a problem. They are very lite and don't root up roads in the rainy season. And yes, been thru water to were it has been a foot inside the cab.
I go were 4wheelers go and then some.
My truck is 6500 lbs and gets stuck in wet grass.

I don't ACTUALLY use mine all that often. But, it allows me to drive around all hunting season without worrying that I'm going to drive off in some soft mud and get stuck. I can turn around on dirt roads without doing a 40 point turn. I don't have to blast through mud holes that turn out to only be 2 inches deep. The peace of mind is worth it to me.

My uncle is one of those ohh I never need 4wd people. Our land is nothing but ruts cause he's constantly flooring it to get anywhere without getting stuck.
