Had a hummer hanging around this morning....time to put out the feeders

Put out 5 feeders Friday and saw my first one this morning. South of Ellick on the end of Indian Creek Res.
Once they start showing up in numbers I'll put out another dozen or so.
Anyone seeing any yet?

Last weekend at the camp in Bernice we had 10 at the feeders at least

I've been getting swarmed in St George for 3 weeks now. Have had stragglers all summer.

Saw my first one yesterday in Montgomery County Texas. He flew by the porch and checked for feeders, hit the honey suckles and then bounced. I need to get the feeders out as well. They are pretty cool little critters to watch.

This, started seeing stragglers show up to my empty feeders so I re-filled everything last week. They have been swarming ever since. I feel like these are higher numbers than we usually see this early.

They came thru the TX panhandle a couple weeks ago. We had black chinned and rufus at different times. They drained the feeder, I refilled and haven’t seen them in 4-5 days. Sucks I could never get a good pic of the males, that Rufus is a pretty bird.

My numbers are behind schedule. 3 feeders out, but it still looks like my local population.

There normally 3-4 that hang around during the summer but for some reason they just weren't active the past few months. I took the feeds down, cleaned them and had them ready for the fall migration.
Wife just said there were a couple hanging out at the feeders outside the office window.

Visiting family in Houston and they had 4 fighting this morning. They were too busy fighting to drink.

I'm in North Louisiana and they are all over the trumpet vines in the backyard that are growing on my oaks. They had several fighting yesterday.

We have a few of ‘em buzzing around in the Bay Hills, they’ve been checking out “Blondie’s” basil & rosemary plants.

Yes sir….my mother lives around LSUA and her feeders have been active.
I wouldn’t say peak numbers, but certainly increase over summer numbers.

We have 1 feeder out because I have one come zipping by every morning. He came through again this morning, checked out the feeder for a couple seconds and them headed out.
Do they take a little bit to start actually hitting the feeder?

how often do you clean the feeder and put fresh nectar out? in this heat, you have to clean and refill at least every 2 or 3 days...

yes, the nectar starts to ferment after 2-3 days when it's really hot...it will start to develop bacteria which can make them sick, and eventually kill them...it causes an infection that causes their tongues to swell up, and they can no longer eat/drink...
the feeders need to be soaked in a 1:5 white vinegar/water solution, scrubbed inside and out, and rinsed thoroughly before refilling them...
i'm not sure why your visitor doesn't seem to be using the feeder though if it's only been up for 2 days...did you use a 1:4 sugar/water mix?
