Well, I don't even consider that hunting, so I really don't care what they think about any other form of hunting. Sitting behind a high fence and calling it hunting is a joke.

But when you see this attitude:
quote:

Again, I wish they'd shut the whole mfer down and gate all the roads to everyone, including the horse trails that the gov't has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on. I dgaf if every acre of federal land is inaccessible. Then everyone's rights could be infringed on the same and we could all be happy.

I hardly feel sorry for them.

I grew up hunting with dogs for deer. As I got older I became educated at how it damaged our herds. Year after year less and less deer killed during the still hunt days. And of those deer that were harvested quality bucks were even more scarce Hell a 130 class buck was considered a dang monster then and folks would gather around the tailgate in awe of never seeing one that big. In my late 20's I quit dog hunting circles completely. We as a family no longer allowed it on our leases and or private land. Within 3 to 4 years it was such a drastic change. We had a strong herd deer all over the place. Mature bucks that were not scared of thier shadow. Fast forward to 10 years after our decision and we are harvesting 140+ class bucks with consistency and documenting what we want to take off the place and pass to next year because the deer stay in there home ranges and are some what predictable. I go Up to other family land North of Kistachie that dogs are still running and it is like stepping back 10 years. Few deer, scarce population, nocturnal, scared to stick there head out before midnight, scrub bucks poor herd.

We have a strict policy if a hunting dog is seen on our property we are going to attempt to catch it and tie it up or if it is aggressive or stubborn we leave the collar and or the tracking device on the closest gate corner post or road intersection for you. You are not allowed to come and get your dog you lost that right when you failed to properly run in an area you could control your animal in. I understand that may upset you but I would expect the same if my aggressive dog came into your yard as well.

SCwTiger. Troy putting out that flyer has done more damage than good. He helped raise awareness to those of us that have postitive documented changes from stopping dog hunting and will be there probably 4 to 1 in person with facts that support conservation of resource efforts by stopping the dog hunting. And facts will prevail yet again over the "tradition" argument witch the facts show hurt the efforts of conservation.

The US army no longer has a Calvary division. Do you know why? Times change, our level of intelligence as a society changes, we adapt to what we learn or we are doomed.

So what you're saying is your club rule about no big dogs because smaller ones are easier to control is horseshite?

No that's not what I'm saying. The beagles are just fast enough to keep the deer moving. The walkers, black & tans, red bones, etc will push the deer so fast that they could wind up 3 parishes over. We ran one through the Walmart parking lot in Vivian once all the way from Oil City.

Even with the beagles, it's hard as hell to get them off a deer, but at least the deer generally stay on our property.

We started running some walkers that just weren’t as good as our old ones were and that worked pretty good. They just weren’t good enough to keep up for long. Our old dogs would blow one out of the whole state.

Beagles never worked where we are. Too much water.

Now we use trail cameras and food plots

I dont even care about dog hunting on private land, just do your best to keep your dogs confined to their area....(i know thats not always possible and would be semi-understanding if my neighbors were doing all they could)

but...

quote:

Banning dog hunting on public land is a no brainer

This is accurate. Public land needs to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. Dogs running wild on public land is a bad idea when the majority of folks that go out there are not involved with the 'drive'.

Kisatchie has been kicking arse since they got the dogs out. I grew up dog hunting, but I’m out. Their time has passed. That and it’s completelt 100% accurate that dog hunters has ZERO respect for other hunters and property lines. frick em.

Well, they can’t control it. Dogs crossed property lines for as long as people have owned property. It wasn’t until people started getting feeders and trail cameras and box stands that it started to matter.

No. The game was changed when the timber companies started calling bullshite. The game changed when fewer people were dog hunting because of increased cost of keeping dogs, younger generation not being “houndsmen” and fewer and fewer places to run dogs. There were fewer and fewer places to run dogs because timber companies saw the distructive nature of the dog hunters. That and liability issues.

To all the “frick all the dog hunters” crowd, frick off. You don’t know us all. We have generations on generations of history hunting deer with dogs in south Louisiana and it’s ending now. You could at least have a little respect for those here for the end of such a storied tradition.

I quit in my early 20s. It just wasn’t the way you describe anymore. And we’re all better off for it.

And by the way, it’s my opinion that the “commercialization” of hunting is more a product of the decline of hounds then a cause.

All the guys I used to run dogs with kill more a better deer now then they ever did with dogs. They complained and whined at first, but most are now seeing that we’re all doing better without them. But hey, I’m with you. I miss hiding illegal does in the bushes, running from land owners and killing spikes too.

They won't, but you can't say they didn't try.
This fight's been going on for five years now, and it's clear that the dog hunters are done. Our club quit maintaining dogs two years ago, and just a few of the old guard are the ones that won't grasp the fact that it's over.
Can't help it that I'm one of those.

I was sitting in a stand by myself at 10 years old with my trusty 35 remmy when i seen a 4 point coming my way slowly. was so pumped because it would've been my first deer, until the same hounds behind him got closer and screwed the whole thing up....i cried

I never shot one, mostly because my uncle would have skinned my arse, but most of the dog hunters I knew growing up wore it like a badge of honor. One of the things that turned me off of it. I understand some may have done it responsibly. The ol baws calling this meeting aren’t those guys.
