FYI for the few dog hunters left
I know most of you probably despise dog hunting, but the fight to allow running dogs on Kisatchie National Forest is having a last gasp effort tomorrow in Alexandria. Image: https://i.imgur.com/97IH3Rv.jpg

This is what I don't understand, what about the man who gets up at 3am, drives an hour or so, backpacks his climbing stand for an hour, climbs a tree and prepares to sit all day only to have dogs run through an hour after he's there.

What are his rights?

No thanks just checked my cams from the lease yesterday. Our only dog running neighbors left, hounds on three of my five cams. They have zero respect for others around them.

The responsible dog hunter's did very little to protect their sport by influencing law to crack down on the trespassing trash that ruined their sport.

They all deserve this and it is coming to an end soon.

Exactly. I understand the dog hunter's frustrations, but they have no way of keeping the dogs from running through an area another hunter is in. It's as bad as squirrel hunting during deer season. Neither is more important than the other (even if one believes so), but both can screw up the other quickly.

This is where management comes into play, and being strict about it. If you're going to allow dogs for any sort of hunting, it needs to be policed, and you need to have seperate seasons, maybe even designated areas. If an area is designated for dogs, anyone else hunting it understands they are taking a chance of having their hunt ruined.

Public lands can be managed for multiple uses and users. I don't like dog hunting, but I'm not going to oppose it when done correctly. You take away their ability to hunt with dogs, and what comes next? Rifle hunting? Our hunting heritage will slowly erode away.

The law abiding dog hunters need to police their own kind. Cut out the trespassing, push for designated areas to run dogs. Maybe then you get the non-dog hunters on board with it.

Dog hunting is in fact a much shorter portion of the hunting season, and started after the rut. Dog hunters are not asking for much on Kisatchie - three weeks would be fine.
Be happy it's gone, and I'll be happy when they shut all hunting on public land down. Then the regulations can affect everyone.

Deer hunting with a dog should be illegal

Why?

I don't dog hunt, never have. I think it's a shame to see it go. But it is solely at the feet of dog hunters. They brought it on themselves.

Meh. Hunting deer with dogs is dead everywhere and it’s a shame. Killed by the commercialization of hunting.

This is the kind of crap we don't need. We can't be our own adversaries.

Well, they can’t control it. Dogs crossed property lines for as long as people have owned property. It wasn’t until people started getting feeders and trail cameras and box stands that it started to matter.

The game was changed by the commercialization of hunting.

Didn't make it ok before.

I don't know how you control it, but if they want to maintain dog hunting, better figure out something.

In my little circle of a couple mile radius, it was very much ok with everyone until recently.

Y’all have already won this battle so take it. Good thing coon hunting isn’t popular anymore or the deer hunters would be on a hell bent mission to outlaw that too.

Hahahaha....Really? The priority for nearly every dog hunter I've come across is to trespass and hunt other people's land. Then, if caught make up bull shite excuses. My bull shite excuse became, "I thought it was a coyote."

Sadly this has been my experience as well.I actually like the idea of dog hunting, until I'm the guy hunting next door

Please explain how to do this. I’m in a dog running club in Oil City and we do everything in our power to keep our dogs on our land. We’ve banned big dogs completely from our property because it’s easier to keep up with the beagles and not let them get off our land.

Am I supposed to ride around the state and police all the other hunters? We try to do what’s right and enjoy the sport while we still have it.
